This is from a friend--her pup is 12 weeks old....Grace has been battling what is believed to be a UTI since the beginning of her 9th week. She urinates about 15 times a day. She has white blood cells and crystals in her urine. She has not responded to two different antibiotic treatments- clavamox and Albon. Those two antibiotics did not affect her urine counts at all.
Any ideas to help this poor pup? Has anyone experienced this?

It sounds like she needs a culture and sensitivity of her urine.
Is she working with a vet? Hopefully she is not trying to diagnose and treat this herself.
I was thinking exactly what F said- sounds like she needs a culture and sensitivity. A Culture grows out exactly what kind of bacteria is causing the problem, and a Sensitivity determines which antibiotics would take care of it. I don't know about dogs, but antibiotic resistance is pretty common in humans with UTIs.
But, my other thought is are they sure it is a UTI? White bloods cells and crystals are also found in the urine of dogs that have bladder stones. Also, puppy vaginitis can cause frequent urination, and the white blood cells from the vagina could be contaminating the urine sample. So, what Karen said! :-) Hoping she is working with a vet to get to the bottom of it.
Yes, she has been working with a vet but nothing has worked so far--The vet is already planning the culture and sensitivity test for Monday--I hope they solve this soon. Thanks everyone!
Ginny..... when you find out, please let us know how your friend's dog is doing.
That is weird! I never heard of a food causing issues that resembled a UTI--has anyone else experienced this? Thanks for sharing this info! We will know more after the vet visit tomorrow and the sensitivity results.
No, I haven't heard of this and medically it doesn't make sense.
Protein content would have nothing to do with a UTI, and in any case, the protein content in the small bites formula is actually slightly higher than the protein content in the large breed formula. But none of the formulas have a high protein content, it's actually on the lower side for all of them.
