At the vet today. They had signs up that they were offering vaccines for Rattle Snake bites.. I was totally confused because I had no idea they even lived in SC.. heebie jeevies.. bleck....

I guess they had a few patients who have had dogs bit by one... They said the main problem with snake bites here is  Copper Heads.. I already knew that because my neighbors dog that lived outside was bit by one and since no one saw him suffering outside alone, they found him dead the next day.

The vet said the vaccine would help protect against Copper head bites.. I am not thinking I need it for here but at moms house which is very close to Georgia and where the dogs play in the park... There has been a lot of snake problems....

When I did the search on here I saw from 2010 some people talking about it but not a whole lot, Has anyone gotten their dog this shot?

I am with you Laurie, dead on the spot!!!!!

We have a harmless (but rather long) snake living in our yard and Sadie is terrified of it. The few times she's encountered it she jumped higher and farther than I've ever seen, and then spent the day flinching at anything that even remotely resembles a snake: branches, twigs, shadows... She could probably teach a class in snake avoidance :)

I am with Sadie :) Smart dog!

Becka Becka Becka, girl you need to rehome that snake!  Yuck.

Ditto! I might be rehoming myself if there were a big snake living in my yard...or even a small one!

Judy and I were in our hot tub, one night,  in our old house, near the California Coast.  We felt someone/something looking at us and looked up in the rafters of the gazebo and there was a big, non-poisonous snake.  Non-poisonous or not, we cut our hot tub dunk short that evening.  We never saw the snake again.  Maybe two naked humans scared it as much as it scared us!

OMD, I would have had a heart attack!

That would have been a pretty racy story, Richard, if not for the legless voyeur!

Can you say "hysterical, nude, crazy lady, running, waving arms over head"?

"And shrieking".

OMD, Richard! I always said there's  never a dull moment at your house!

Oh I actually like snakes--I wanted to be a herpetologist (reptile science!) when I was a kid. This one is quite shy and always flees when it sees us.

hee hee I am a herptologist - Im an ecologist specializing in bats, amphibians and reptiles! Well, I was in the UK, I would be here in Canada if I could get a job!!!!!!
