Amber is a Doberman and she belongs to my second cousin Daniel and his wife Chalice. They have a two year old little girl called Astrid. Daniel and Chalice got Amber as a puppy before they were married and she is six years old. Amber is the most gentle dog and I remember when she was a challenging puppy Daniel used to take her to obedience classes, he even got a private trainer in and spent every cent he had making sure she had the best of everything. Amber loves Astrid and is very very gentle with her. Last week she was diagnosed with an aggressive Leukemia. I sent a message to Daniel who lives in London when his mother (my very close first cousin) called to tell me the awful news. I told him that I was so very sad. They had thought that today would be the day to make that very hard but kind decision but it seems that Amber had other ideas she ate two chicken breasts, came to greet my cousin at the front door and snuggled on the couch with the family all day. I told them she would let them know when she is ready. This is the message that Dan sent me.
'thanks nicky, its very sad for us as she was our first child. she was diagnosed with cancer and it seems to have taken hold very fast. she was chasing squirrels last week and today can barely move. thanks for your thoughts......'
So perhaps if you have a moment and if you believe in prayer you could pray for Amber that she will pass to that great place where Dogs go when she is ready and that her family will know when that time comes and be able to bear the pain that will come with their loss.
*UPDATE* I just got a message from my cousin to say that Amber is still with them and they think she doesn't want to go yet, She asked for prayers for her and I told her that I had lots of friends who were doing just that. They have even brought in an animal communicator to help understand how she is feeling
*UPDATE*2
This is the message that Daniel posted yesterday:
Today has been the saddest and the greatest morning. Sad because after 5 and three quarter years we had to say goodbye to Amber. And great because she had such a dignified assisted death. Heaven has gained a faithful and loyal friend, who I hope calls in on us from time to time. Mummy and Daddy and Astrid are going to miss you so much, you were and always will be such a prescience in our lives. R.I.P Amber god bless xxxxxxxxxxxx
The family also asked me to thank all of you for their prayers. They are sad beyond belief but know that Amber is at peace. Thank you.X.

Amber will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Nicky, I am so sorry to hear about your brother's sweet Amber. When we lost our Golden to cancer, he was sick one day, spent the night in the ER and they told us to put him down the next day because he only had days to live and was in pain. I will be praying your family will be able to pour their love out to him and release him with gratitude for the love he has given them. It is so very hard.
Amber and her family have my prayers. I'm sorry Nicky. : (
