Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
My husband and I noticed today that Stella has scabs in various places....her legs...a few spots on her back...a couple on her head..near her ears. We examined them and they seem to just be scabs...no ticks or anything. Could these simply be bug bites that have scabbed over? Seamus, our other doodle, doesn't have them, but Miss Stella has a naughty habit of rolling on her back in our grass...and the weather here has certainly brought the bugs out.
Any other ideas or anything else I should be concerned about? She is not really bothered by them...not being itchy, but I wanted to see if anyone else has seen/felt these on their doodle. I wouldn't be overly concerned, but she has maybe about 8 of them on her. She was at the vet about a month ago for a yeast infection so I really don't want to have to bring her back for these...
Stella thanks you as always =)
UPDATE A MONTH LATER:
Well, we have been battling these "scabs" for a good month now. First we were told it was a yeast infection and were prescribed cream and wipes......they did absolutely nothing. We took her back to the vet the other day and demanded an antibiotic in pill form. Turns out she has a staph infection! Poor Stella had scabs and raw patches of skin ALL OVER her belly. The first vet (an associate of the man we normally see) apparently overlooked a common problem.....makes me so angry! So over $300 later (we had to pay for another visit, prescriptions...and she was due for a vaccine anyway) Stella is feeling much better and her belly is clearing up.

OMGosh - they brought it to your bedroom? Jake was on Frontline too but I am told that opossums can be infested with fleas. Of course I didn't know any of this when he found a baby one last month so I just let him inside not thinking to check him right away for fleas. When I noticed Jake scratching and biting like crazy 2 days later I found them but didn't realize there were LOTS of them since he is pretty furry. I put more Frontline on him but should have just given him a bath using Dawn right away. This happened a month ago and I was so afraid the house was going to be infested with fleas.....Jake also developed terrible hot spots from all of the flea trails. Every night we try to remember to go out and scour the yard for these yucky critters before we let the dogs out but I forgot to on Saturday and of course he found one.
I hope you can figure out what is causing your dogs distress....it is no fun when they start the scratching and biting.
Zacks are caused by allergies.
My Tucker has the same thing...I noticed the small scabs and now some scars on his belly. After finding a rather large scab on his head I took him to the vet and he has HOT SPOTS..... she put him on an antibiotic and some kind of medicated powder. Both helped but just tonight I noticed a couple more wounds/scabs. He is not bothered at all by the small wounds but I notice that they have an awful smell!!!

I'm sorry you had such a difficult and expensive time getting a diagnosis, but glad to hear that Stella now has an effective treatment and is feeling better.
Good to hear that Stella is finally on the road to recovery.
