My 9 week old F1 Goldendoodle seems to shed a lot. Will he always shed or as his coat changes is it possible for him to shed less or not at all? Anyone have an opinion on this?
It's possible he won't shed later but dogs who don't shed usually start off not shedding. Those who start off shedding right away probably always will. Hopefully you don't mind it as F1 doodles are a gamble shedding wise :)
Our doodle is a shedder & has been since day one. You do take that chance with F1's. Gunner has more of a Golden Retriever coat & really doesn't look much like a poodle, but that is ok. We just deal with it & brush him often. We love his look.
I don't really mind the shedding but my husband is having a bit of an allergic reaction to him. I guess I will just have to brush him and clean every day.

I have an F1 Goldendoodle, although he doesn't shed my allergies sometimes act up. Mainly my eyes itch around him. I make sure to wash my hands after playing with him, (which is all the time) but that works for me.
Our pup shed for a few weeks-If I was wearing black, I could see it all over me-also on our dark hardwood floors. Or... we would find puff bals of doodle hair around the house. He is 11 mths old now and does not shed at all.
Gus is a F1 Goldendoodle and boy did he shed! When he hit about 18 months his shedding became a lot less, no huge balls of cream fur everyday on the tile floor that I'd scoop up in my hands! He just turned 2 yrs. and I can't remember the last time that I scooped up his glob of fur on the tile entry, between the fridge, off the hardwood floors or anywhere else. But knowing Gus he'll surprise me with a deposit of fur in the morning! LOL Really it does get better. He now sheds less then all my Goldens ever did. Just keep scooping up the puppy fur and it will eventually be lots better the older he or she gets. Gus is now "little or no shed."
I have an F2b goldendoodle that is 13 weeks and is shedding. I am really disappointed, because my husband has mild allergies and I picked a doodle because of the shedding factor. My breeder told me that he should not shed. I am hoping that maybe this is his puppy coat??? Oh well, I guess I will just have to deal with it.
Unfortunately, there's NO guarantee with doodles. None. Buying a doodle is taking a plunge into the unknown as far as shedding. Some F1's DO NOT shed...and some higher generation doodles DO shed. Your only guarantee is with a pure breed like a poodle that always comes out the same...as the poodle is what contributes whatever non-shedding qualities a doodle might have. The rest is just a genetic toss of the dice.
Webster is a 6 month old F2 with a curly, non-shedding coat. I also have a golden retriever mix and a german shedder (shepherd) mix. The golden leaves long blond hair on furniture, drapes, clothes, etc. The shep mix leaves giant dust bunnies of hair on the floor - looks like mini tumbleweeds on the hardwood. When I brush these dogs I have enough hair to stuff a pillow. Seriously, I spent about 15 minutes brushing the golden and got at least 8 brushfuls of hair and, if I'd had time, there would have been many more.
My question is this: how much shedding do your shedding doodles shed? (Sorry, I didn't mean for that to be a tongue twister!) I am thrilled about my Webster not shedding but am wondering how a shedding doodle compares with my other 2 dogs.
My puppy leaves 2 inch long blond hair on black shirts and pants. There are no dust bunnies on my hardwood floor and I don't really see it except on my clothes when I pick him up. When I brush him there is no hair on the brush. My breeder said it was his puppy coat. I wonder......
