Shedding Begins!

We have a year-old Goldendoodle who has never shed - until about 2 months ago.  Her coat is obviously going through some changes - become a little more coarse toward mid-back down.  Her legs, head, chest, etc. are all beautiful glossing waves and some tight curls.  Again, up until about 2 months ago we had no shedding other than the little soft puffs we would find.  Now we have short hair showing up on furniture, clothes, etc.  She seems to be dropping hair everywhere!  Is this a normal adult coat change and will the shedding eventually slow or stop since she didn't shed for the first 10 months?

She could be starting her coat transition from puppy to adult.

I would agree with Nina in that your pup is going through the coat change. It will likely take a few months. If you have an early generation, f1 or f1b for example then there is no guarantee that the shedding will stop (but it might)

I am wondering the same thing because Parker didn't shed at first and we are going through the same thing with him now!

yup--transition--you won't really know about the adult coat for at least a few more months--coarser coats often shed a bit more though. Only part of the dog may shed also! My F1 has a similar coat to the one you described and her body sheds, but legs (curlier, softer) do not.

Our puppy is only 4 months old and she sheds quite a bit.   I didn't know that they go through a coat change and am curious how she will change.  I love the color she is now but I am expecting that to change as well.

Yeah-I had no idea either-I miss Myla's puppy hair, it's totally different and hard to manage now. Both my girls changed drastically in color. They're still cute so we'll keep them:)

Be sure to comb and brush her a lot during this coat change or you could end up with a matted doodle that must be shaved down.  Gotta watch it closely.  Get all the way down to the skin when combing.
