Are shitpoos considered a DOODLE?  I think so, but not sure.  Let me know.

Doodle isn't well defined but for me it is about the name. LabraDOODLE and GoldendDOODLE are called doodles because that is part of their name. Sort of like guys named Banjamin are often called 'Ben' for short. I don't consider everything with poodle in it a doodle because it doesn't make name sense to me.

Since there's really no such thing as a "doodle", any poodle mix can be called that. Those are just made-up names. The word "doodle" comes from the combination of LABRADor and POODLE: If you take off the "or" in Labrador and the "P" in poodle, you get Labrad-oodle.

That's not the case with most other combinations, including Goldendoodles. The real name should be Goldenoodles or maybe you could get "doodle" in there if you dropped the "EN" in "Golden" and the "P" in Poodle: Gold-oodle, if you wanted to be grammatically correct, lol.

One thing I would like to point out, though, is that the correct spelling of the dog you're asking about is Shih Tzu, and if you combine it with a poodle, it would be Shih-Poo or Shi-Poo. (Shih is pronounced "she" ) The "T" never directly follows the "I", there's an "H" in there. It also just looks nicer than "s***poo"  or "s***zu", lol.

Now, I wonder why the four-letter word was asterisked out in my post, but not in the title or the body of the original post? I typed the actual letters.

 Weird.

Do you still see asterisks?  I never saw any.

Yep, the last sentence of my post above appears on my computer as
" It also just looks nicer than "s***poo" or "s***zu", lol." and that's directly copied and pasted.

I see the asterisks.

Me too.

asterisked in Karen's post not in the original.

how about poopoodoods - ha ha

all are welcome.

You are absolutely correct on the "s***poo"  or "s***zu" part.  That was MY name for Paxton because he can be a sh** sometimes, but he has certainly become part of our family and is the sweetest cuddler there is, unlike his sister Kahlua who thinks that we should make an appointment before getting her to snuggle with us.  Maybe I can make a name up for Kahlua like Goldenpoopoo!!!!  HAHA!

I always thought doodles came from the names??

Right. LABRAD(or-p)OODLE, take only the capital letters and you get Labradoodle.

But you can't do that with say, "Aussie-Doodle". Where would the first D in "Doodle" come from there? "Aussie-Poo" makes more sense.

This mix no matter what the name, to me isn't something that should be bred purposely as I can't see that mixing the breeds betters either? I may be wrong. But I thought that when you breed the doodles it is to breed traits into a breed to make it more desirable. The coat for instance. Where the shihtzu is a small breed with a non shedding coat, what does breeding it to a poodle do to better the breed? All the shihtzu's that I have met have been really smart little dogs too.
