Perhaps you can organize some kind of a charity walk (or just for fun) in the area? Gather people who walk their dogs and walk together?
thanks that a great idea only thing i dont see anyone walking there dogs only the young guys with there pitts!
I see that Macon is about 60 miles from you. Is there anything going on in Macon. We drive that far to take Haley places. Living in the country is great but does lack activities.
Look on Meetup.com. It is a great way to find people with similar interests. It doesn't look like there is a dog group. you'd have to start your own.
While searching I noticed that there is a group for Witches in Warner Robins GA. Looks like there are 150+ witches. Other groups within and hour of your town: Middle George Furry Fandom, Polyamorists, Warmachine/Hordes players and Paranormal Enthusiasts. These may not float your boat but it shows people in the area use Meetup. :)
We have a meetup group here in Jacksonville FL. Elizabeth & Bailey started the group and we get together about once a month at a local dog park. It's always fun for the dogs and their people! If you dont have a dog park, you could organize a playtime or walks with other dogs & people. You can check out our group here for an idea:
Advertise at the pet food store or a pet store where you buy supplies. Ask the groomer if she knows of anyone who would like to get some dog activities together. Where ever you shop for your pet there are probably other people who would love to get together. There is no problem finding pet activities in this area. What about dog training groups? Are there some obedience classes? There are so many ways you can meet other dog owners and I would bet they are out there looking for friends also.
I was thinking what Jarka mentioned- meeting up w/ other dog owners and planning some event...? We're in a small town too but luckily a very dog friendly neighborhood/area where I'm at in TX (which we just moved from Marietta, GA ;) -- so there are lots of dogs to socialize with plus lots of cool trail to walk, with or without other dog friends. I'm starting to realize I'm not going to have a water dog either, which is a little bit disappointing since we have lots of access to ponds, creeks & pools. Oh well.
A PetSmart round up is a great idea! See if the manager will sponsor a walk or romp or maybe a fund raiser for the local humane society.
Great idea Lori!
