Started Hattie on Proin for her incontinence

Hattie had a pee accident last night in the house so I took that as my cue to relent and get the medicine for her. It can't be fun to be wet all the time or even part of the time. We are doing a 10 day trial to see if it is going to work. If it does, it will be for life. If it doesn't then the next step is a specialist. I'm not crazy about putting her on meds this young, but we will see what the next few days bring us in results. From researching the web I see there are many other pups her age who have been put on it as well from early spays and have never had a problem. Are there any DKer's currently using Proin?

Sandy when my Frenchie Bruno was diagnosed with epilepsy my first reaction was OMG he has epilepsy, he is going to have brain damage and have to live with seizures. However the three seizures that he had did not cause any damage except to the couch that had to be thrown out. The vet prescibed phenobarb, and I thought, OMG he has to be on the  drug forever and it is going to sedate him and change his personality but it has never caused the slightest bit of sedation and he is exactly as goofy as he has always been. He has had one seizure since he was diagnosed, and that was when I had a brain fart during a very stressful period and forgot his meds and mine for three days - I ended up with a migraine and he had a seizure (same day!), and now I use a med box for both of us!!

If this incontinence is so common among dogs with early spay, then why are some (really good by the way) breeders still doing it?

I don't think it is common.

Actually I think it is uncommon, but one of the possible complications, and like all uncommon complications, it is a problem when it is your dog that has to live with the consequences. I think that  ESN is a requirement for ALD breeders who are members of their professional association (could be wrong - so I am sure that any one with more info will jump in)
