I have noticed for quite a while now, that even fresh out of the bath, Bruce's face always smells really bad. I wash his face regularly, but he continues to smell terrible. I thought for a while that it may be the beard, but even after giving Bruce "poodle face" for reasons unrelated, the odor persists.
any body else have this issue?
it's not his breath, his breath does not always smell fantastic, but it's not that bad, it definitely his face. I even smell it stronger when his mouth is closed. the smell is hard to describe, but the closest thing I could compare it too is Doritos zesty chips, but a little more sour than cheesy. I know, that's not a great description. but it's the best I can do at the moment. I will try the lemon/water vinegar/water wash, although I have tried ACV and water mixture before, and it didn't help.
it's not his ears, they are great (thank goodness). I clean them every few days, and they don't smell bad at all.
I can't give him any treats for breath right now, as he is dealing with what may be allergies, and we have eliminated all foods outside of his diet. but even before the elimination of all treats, we would give him eucalyptus biscuits and he had great breath, but the smell around his muzzle was present.
That's what I was wondering too...Scampy has a lot of inner ear hair growth and it gets gooey and smelly, there is this really great stuff called UBAVET its an ear cleaner that you can get from your vet,it doesn't treat infection but works as a maintenance cleaner. Good luck :)
no, lucky us, there is no Skunk population here in Newfoundland.
I'm glad, I know how bad Skunk can be, I had a neighbor once when I lived on a farm in Nova Scotia whose dog Jake, had an unwelcome play date with a skunk, and boy, was it bad!!!! lol
OMG all of a sudden, Beau's face DOES smell like a skunk! I couldn't exactly describe the foul odor, until I read your post!! I don't know where he could have come in contact with a skunk....? We live in an apartment building, and he;s always on the leash, except at the dog park, and I've certainly never seen a skunk there.
