Has anyone ever used the Sunbeam handheld egg for their barking dogs?

I was digging through Ben and Zoe's basket of stuff the other day and found a present that we got from my cousin awhile back and decided to try it out.

I opened it, put batteries in it, and waited for them to see something outside and start barking.  Once they start barking you just push the button and they are supposed to hear a ultra sonic sound that only dogs can hear and stop.  And boy did they stop!  Ben stopped first and almost backed up into the other room.  Zoe stopped after one more push of the button and then glared at me like I punched her best friend or something.

DH even tried it when they were barking outside.  He walked up to the side door, didn't open the door but pushed the button and they both stopped.  Again, Zoe glared at him like he punched her bff!

I am AMAZED at this product but still a little reluctant to keep using it.  I don't know what kind of sound they are hearing and I am hoping it doesn't hurt them.  There is not much information about this online besides a couple reviews on the petsmart website and a couple blog reviews.  Has anyone ever  heard anything on this product?  I can't decide if it's ingenious or cruel.

Sorry, I've never heard of it, but if it works and doesn't hurt them, then I see no harm in trying.

I agree. I never heard of it either, but if it doesn't hurt them, worth a shot.

So far so good :)

I am interested in the responses. I had a TERRIBLE day with two barking Doodles :)

Hi Laurie! U should definitely try this! Some of the reviews say it doesn't work but it working for mine but it's only been 4 days :)

You will have to read my upcoming blog of what I have been doing. LOL I may have to go to this next.

yay…very excited for your next blog!

"worst" thing I saw was that it did not work well-best was using it for short bursts and then rewarding positive response.  We are taking Quince to a motel overnight.  I am thinking about training a "no bark" response preemptively.

Oh rewarding positive responses! Great idea Lori thank you!
My little dood doesn't bark much (yet). But chasing the cat? That's a different story. Just ordered this to use for 'leave kitty alone !' training.

I have a similar device and hate it.  Basically for that horrible look you describe.  I don't know what it sounds like but the dogs clearly no you are doing something unpleasant to them - whether it hurts or not.

I also think that the novelty will wear off and a die-hard barker is not going to care for long.

Some dogs hear that ultrasonic noise and stop barking, but many do not or it doesn't bug enough to stop their bark.  We have one (perhaps different from your specific one thougth)  in the RV but it doesn't do the job at all.
