I took Toby in to the vet to see about the "thingy" on his paw.  It turned out to be a cutaneous horn, as someone had suggested.  It had a lot of other names too, but mostly it meant that he had a corn on his paw pad growing out the side.  The vet trimmed it, then it split down the middle and started bleeding.  Great.  Now it has a bandage on it.  The problem is that a) it is rough and could catch on things, and b) it will just keep growing unless it's removed.  So Toby is going back in tomorrow to have it removed surgically.  It's a short surgery - 20 minutes, and he'll only be there half a day, but still.....you know how I feel.  Poor baby.  I hope  my pet insurance covers it.  I was going to wait and see, but since it has to be taken care of anyway, it really doesn't matter.  Also, if it is left there is an outside chance it could turn cancerous, so let's get rid of that chance.

I also think you've made the right decision, and I'm sure everything will be fine for Toby. We'll be thinking of you both.

Sounds like a simple procedure and he should sail right though. Hopefully your day goes by quickly and he's back home soon.
Maddie says good luck Toby - get better quick.
Wishing Toby a speedy recovery.
You guys are the best.  By the way, the vet was very impressed that someone on this board had diagnosed it as a cutaneous horn just by description and picture!   I just hope he's better after surgery than he was after his neutering - he was a loopy space cadet for a LONG time - hours.
Oh Lisa, that is too funny!  He said to best get rid of it now before it has a chance to turn into anything else.  Sadly we will have to sport the cone for 3 days or so.
We'll be thinking of Toby, well wishes for a speedy recovery.
Hope it goes well! I think you  have made the right decision for Toby and I hope he is back to his doodley self very soon!

Hey, I just read about this today and book marked it.  You might want to order one because paws can be hard to heal, especially when they like to lick.  Gracie Doodle had paw surgery last summer and even the biggest cone head collar wasn't big enough to keep her from licking her paw.  She would just stretch it right out there and with her big long tongue lick away!!!  I ended up putting one of her boots on so it could heal.   It was her front paw...don't know if Toby's is front or back. I sure hope he has a speedy recovery and it is nothing serious.  Keep us all posted on how it goes.

That is fantastic!  It's his front left paw - if there's a way to get at it, he will.  I wonder if anyone around here carries those?  I'll have to do a quick on-line search.

*Just looked around and can't seem to find any in stores where I live.  I wonder if there's anything else I could use? *

Oh poor Toby and poor you. That is a lot of stress. I hope it goes so smoothly and recovery is really quick.
Please tell Toby that Hercules, Zeus, and I wish him a speedy recovery.
