In all my research I read at some point that if you pull gently on a doodles coat at eight weeks or so and you come away with no hair they will be non-shedders. This is the case with Hattie and I was just wondering if it is true or not. Will she be a non shedder if she doesn't shed now? Or could that change when she loses her puppy coat?

Darwin didn't shed at all when he was a puppy. Then, when he went through his coat change, he started to shed a little bit, and now we are pretty much past the coat change and he has stopped shedding again.

I think it is different for every puppy, there is no way to really tell. I don't think. :-)

I have no idea (as you know I'm a rookie doodle owner myself), but I sure hope you're right!  I just now tried it with Bexter & no hair!  YIPPEE!!!  I also notice that whenever I brush him with the slicker brush no hair comes off on the brush!  Have you looked at that?  I HOPE YOU'RE RIGHT!  (Of course, I'll love him anyway...)
Owen wasn't shedding at 8 weeks but around 12-14 weeks he was and still is. I'm no expert, just giving our experience.

I have always done this "pull test" with success BUT I don't know how reliable it truly is.  Since doodles can have coat changes, it might be less reliable then with other breeds and mixes.  I always had mixed breeds (rescues, pound puppies, etc) and we would do the "pull test" to help predict the amount of shedding.  It was a good indicator for our dogs but, who knows?

I don't think it is a reliable test of shedding. Even dog breeds that do shed, don't shed (or not much at all) when they are puppies. I don't think you can really know for sure until the adult coat comes in.
I'm not 100% sure...but I the pull test works...because right now (at 6 months) when we pull on her hair, not a single one comes off! I would love for it to stay that way...but i'll love her anyway regardless :-)
I think 6 months is more likely than 8 weeks.
Not really sure if this is true? Myla's hair changed drastically so I would think it may depend on the puppy. She is so sweet!!
My guess is it won't give you a false positive but possibly a false negative.  I know I can pull hair off of my shedders any time and have always been able to do so.  But only time will tell what you get.

We got Trixie at 8 weeks.  granted I did nopt try the Pull the fur test.  But at 8 weeks she did not shed.  No fur on my Black clothes.  at 10 weeks she shed like crazy!   All my black clothes are white : (

About 3 weeks ago she was leaving Clumps of fur on the carpet...That only lasted a week

At 20 weeks she still sheds.   Her fur is starting  to grow in really thick right now.

Whats really wierd (at least for me) Is she really doesnt seem to leave fur on the floor or carpet. ( like my FC retrievers did)  No piles in the corner.  I just vaccumed the whole house & there really was no visible fur in the vaccum.  My Black Tshirt from last night is full of her fur though.

Harley did not shed until about 15 weeks, he is shedding now (19 weeks) but still nothing major (compaired to by GSD)  His coat is going through a change right now so I contribute it to that.  I'm hoping that once his adult coat is in he will return to the non-shed state.  :-)
