Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

The Doodle Messenger is announcing a benefit available to all of our readers...

We are proud to partner with Petplan, America’s #1 pet insurance provider according to independent customer reviews on PetInsuranceReview.com.

In the course of the last ten months we have been given space on so many doodle sites and forums to help those doodles in need. Because of them, because of you who read the stories and hold the paws across the "Doodle Internet," TODAY we are able to announce a special benefit for those who seek or will be renewing their doodle pet insurance.  We hope this announcement brings you both joy and thanks from the Volunteer Board Members of the Messenger and the Corporate offices (dog lovers all) of Petplan Insurance. We  are so thankful for their concern for our sick doodles...and their assistance to doodle owners.

Our unique strategic partner promo code is DOODLE which provides an additional 5% partner discount on top of the standard 5% website discount!  If you already have Petplan, be sure to notify the company by telephone when you renew and your discount using "Doodle" will also apply.

For every new doodle who is signed up with Petplan, and for those who are needing to renew their insurance with Petplan, the company will donate $25.00 to the fund which goes directly and equally to each doodle on The Doodle Messenger!  We understand this is the season of miracles. Not only a discount to a discount, but, how lucky we are to have met a corporation  with not only momentum, but a heart, and willing to extend that to so many of our doodle owners in need, contemplating insurance or not. If you are not a person who uses pet insurance, perhaps you will tell friends of the kindness of this particular company.

Never thought about this since I only have one.  Call them and let us all know.

Gee, I don't know either. Would be interesting to know and the reasoning.  If I am correct, and I think I am, the CEO of Pet Plan did his masters thesis on developing this pet insurance model at Wharton School of Finance, then began its implementation. I'm guessing he would have had to have done a huge amount of research to look at not only how and what to insure, but the financial aspects for the growth of the company, and gender issues too. I'm sure his professors would have grilled him everywhich way to examine the soundness of his concept. So, it would be a very interesting question we could all learn something about!
I did call PetPlan. One discount had not been applied to Calla accounting for the discrepancy. There is a maximum of a discount that can be applied per pet so they would not owe me money :) Doodle code could be one, microchip, multiple pets, online etc. each are discounted. Hope this clarifies things for others. The woman I spoke to was very nice.

I went onto Pet Secure website....  theres no category for labradoodle, so do I put in Lab cross or Poodle cross? (does it matter the cost is the same). I cannot use the Doodle promo code either (it only allows a code up to 5 letters).

Am wondering which coverage to get.... how much does certain things cost..... what is a good amount to be covered for? $1000, $2500, $5000 per illness and accident per year??????

they say they cover up to 80% of the cost.... is this after the deductible... as in I pay the deductible, and 80% of the remaining cost?

We are still working on the Canadian PetPlan, PetSecure. We are not sure if it is a wholly owned company of PetPlan or
a subsidiary possibly recently purchased. We will have that answer next
week as their vacation staffing is smaller and we don't want to
overwhelm the head of the company with a gazillion questions at this
moment.
Hard to answer how much.  Everyone has a different budget pattern.  I'm thinking you need to think of how much money you have if something went wrong and then work from there. And, Vets can charge more or less regionally for the same service. Sort of complicates a good answer.  I believe as in you pay the deductible and they pay the 80%.  You can probably handle as can I the routine stuff, so you would need to look at the things that would involve dollars like surgery, cancer, certain eye conditions.  I'm sure people here can help with answering those kinds of questions.  As Karan said below, on the other issue, we are trying to get an answer re: PetSecure and the promo code for Doodle.  We'll get back to you once we know for sure if PetPlan is the same as, or going to be the same treatment as Canada's PetSecure. Maybe it's a programming issue that they can't change in Canada until after the holidays. I think yesterday was Boxing Day there!  Holiday
Karan of the Messenger posted about PetSecure a few hours ago.  We were mistaken that we thought there was a connection, there is not. So there is no Promo site on PetSecure, a different company, wanted to get back to you in case you missed her announcement. However, PetPlan is apparently planning to introduce itself in Canada early in 2011.  Read Karan's post of a few hours ago.  Duh, no wonder you couldn't find it, shows you how we made the mistake connecting the two.  Anyhow, if they do move into the Canadian market, they are great with telephone questions and answers like yours. There is no harm in calling them to find out some of the coverage questions after you look at the existing PetPlan site, it's pretty comprehensive in explanations, and if you go with PetSecure you will  have some good information.
