Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This morning we took Wally and Charlotte out to a local farmers market, where our paths intersected with a very friendly Portuguese Water Dog and its (obnoxious) owner. While the dogs greeted one another, the owner asked if ours were doodles. Then, she proceeded to say, "Mine is the real deal." Dumbfounded but prepared, I looked directly at her and asked, "What is that supposed to mean?" Not expecting my blunt reaction, she responded by saying, "Well, they're not recognized by the AKC." I turned to my husband, shook my head in disbelief, and we walked away. I hope she got the message. The nerve!

Thanks, Cheryl. They are kind of cute, if I must say so myself!

I've read lots of similar stories on the Internet and can't believe the amount misinformation and snubbery there is regarding the labradoodle (or any dog that has been crossed with a poodle).

Too bad people aren't more like dogs. It doesn't sound as if her Akc pooch cared.

Like my dad used to say, "Well, lah-tee-da!" ;)

Her dog was actually quite pleasant. He must have learned manners from his "real" mother!

Some people just don't get it....they think that AKC registration makes their dog the "real deal".  I gave up trying to have that discussion a long time ago.  We know our Doodles are really special....that's why I love having a place like DK where we all understand.

People who are snooty about the AKC always baffle me. They seem to care so much about their dog's pedigree....but usually know nothing about their own ancestry. I guess a rescue dog would just demand a run for the smelling salts for that lady? As they say: "that's a first world problem". Lol.

She clearly didn't expect my comeback, and that line about the AKC was the first response that popped into her tiny little brain. I don't really understand why this stuff irritates me so much. I guess it's the idea that someone would say something knowing that it could come across as hurtful. Clearly, she was not complimenting me or my wonderful pups. Whatever . . .

Good for you!   She didn't deserve anything more!   She got the message!

"Not recognized" -- hee hee. As if anyone is trying or they need a flawed organization to recognize them.
In total agreement
Obviously this lady wouldn't "recognize" manners if they jumped up and bit her. What goes on with these people?
I should have said, "They look pretty real to me!"

It would have been kind of fun to say, "I'm sorry, I don't RECOGNIZE you, have we met? Or, did your ego just say something mean to a perfect stranger?"
