Well, Riley's hair has been growing and growing.  No mats yet but he looks like a big bear.  I love that natural look so I was just into a tidying up sort of grooming session and today was the day.  I'm known for my impatience and my gusto so I was trying hard not to be over zealous.  All was going well until I decided to take the hair under his ears very short to let the air at them.  I popped on the number 10 blade and well...went a little too far...right down to the skin to be exact.  The good news that  even though he is totally nude under one ear you can't actually see it unless he's running or his ear flicks back.  The bad news is that I haven't told his Dad yet.  So here is the question.  Do I tell him before he finds the bald patch or say nothing.  He goes mad with me when he sees all my grooming tools coming out anyway!  Riley is totally cool with the whole thing.  The rest of him looks fine.  I feel awful.  It's dinner time soon I was thinking of getting out a nice bottle of wine and cooking a lovely meal for Riley's Dad?

UPDATE***

Well, dinner is over, the wine is gone but coward here couldn't say a word.  Here are two pictures I just took with my iPhone so not great.  The second is my best (drunken) attempt at the bald spot... (you try holding up an ear and taking a pic at the same time ; ) )

BTW he hasn't noticed anything yet and Man and dog have been playing on the floor for ages.

You did an awesome job on the rest of Riley. Sorry about the bald spot but really, when is anyone going to see it? I have a ridiculous problem. The minute I say I am not going to tell DH, I spill the beans. I cannot keep anything from him. So it just wouldn't be an option not to tell for me.

I've had a pretty crappy day - so thanks for posting this.  Your problem and the responses to it brought a smile to my face!

Nicky, I always operate on a "need to know" basis.

Me too, but you don't live with inspector gadget!

LOL, I have gotten carried away in the past as well.  I try not to use the "buzzer" that much because I don't trust myself.  I scissor most of the time :)

Hey girlfriend...

I'm a scissors girl...so...I don't have many "Oops!  Lol..

Just keep the wine flowing...

Afterall... Your partner will most likely not notice the short spot under Rileys ear...and it will grow in quickly!

You do all of the "hard work"...and...if he has a "problem with it"...well...he can do the grooming next time!!  Lol...

It will grow back so quickly that he will probably not even know...and next time...you can use a different blade or the scissors!

By the way...Great Job Grooming Riley!

I'm with you ! Not only are you doing the hard work, but saving him about $75.00 or more for a good grooming so Riley doesn't come back shaved to the skin all over! My mom used to say " if he gets mad, he can get glad" basically it's his choice, not your problem. I do think it's cute that he would care that much if he knew. My DH probably wouldn't notice!

It's fur... it will grow back.  I have to laugh though.... I can't see a thing in that 2nd photo.... can't place an ear or anything!   :)

LOL... this reminds me of the kids when they take scissors to their hair, or their clothes or someone else's hair!  My vote?  Don't say anything, then if and when he notices, just tell him...."what do you mean, you didn't see this before?  Don't you remember that night when I made the nice dinner and I told you over wine what happened... and you said 'no worries'"

BTW ~ he looks great!

I have now signed up for a day course at a really good groomers for me and Riley!  Hopefully no more bald patches...?

Ps. He hasn't noticed yet!!!

Why will none of us be surprised that your boyfriend didn't even notice the bald spot. In a day or two it will not be bald anymore anyway. ;o) You are so lucky to have a place that give training in grooming. Enjoy. Riley is adorable, always!
