Toby Update

[Sandy]

One week since surgery - four more days of the cone left.  Oh, my poor legs.  :)  Seriously, there is no grace in this dog.  I can't even begin to say how many times he has rammed into the back of my legs, or nicked my knees on his way by.

 

We have been back to the vet every day this week for a wound check/bandage change.  The vet is only charging me for the bandages, not his time.  The first time he checked there was a little infection going on, so he wanted to be sure things were good.  We go again today, then Saturday, then Monday the bandages and cone come OFF!!!!!  I can't wait.

 

I finally got Toby to eat willingly by putting some scrambled egg in his food.  Thank you for whoever recommended that.  I don't know how I'll be able to stop afterwards, because he really, really likes it, but we'll see.

 

I thought that I was getting to the point where walking Toby every day was getting old, but now that I haven't been able to do it for a week, I miss it.  So does he.  His daily rides to the vet are his fun little outing for the day.  If nothing else, he now doesn't really mind going to the vet.  :)

*UPDATE - just in from the vet's for today. We go back on Saturday. The vet says the pad is looking nice and dry, and he is very hopeful that the cone and bandage will come off on Monday.

This has been a much longer haul than I was thinking when he first had the surgery. I'm sorry for both of you. It sounds like jeans are in order but maybe you live in an area enduring this horrendous heat. You must be scratched and bruised with all that cone crashing. Sorry Toby is being so brutal on you. Maybe you can wean Toby off the egg by giving him a tiny bit less each day. I'm trying to wean myself off coffee doing this. hmmm.

The vet is surprised too - he thought the healing time would be shorter.  Oh well.  It's a paw, and there's 80 pounds of weight on it every time he walks, so I guess it's to be expected.  My vet also errs on the side of caution, always, so that's fine with me.  That being said - come on, Monday!
