Granted, Jack is very spoiled, eats the best food, has a lot of toys, has a lot of everything, but I demand excellent behavior from him. I love him to death as you all know, but anyone that knows me in person knows, I am very strict with his behavior.

I was talking to another dog mom at training class tonight about getting a dog sitter to stay in my house when I go to  National Jewish Hospital and someone else brought up that our trainer dog sits. I replied that I know that but she only lets them stay outside and that Jack is not been geared toward being outside in the hot sun all day and night. That is when the trainer jumped in and said "oh yeah Jack is a spoiled brat, I am surprised he doesn't have mud boots and a rain coat for going out" I laughed and said out of spite, "well actually he has three different sets'

I don't know if she was insulted because I am not using her as a dog sitter or what. She ignored Jack during the class totally, and then when another dog was up in Jacks space and Jack growled at the dog, she sprayed him in the head and said "knock it off Jack quit being a jerk" The dog kept trying to wrestle with Jack and he didn't want him to so Jack growled again and she sprayed him and smacked his nose.

I was so upset, not because she said Jack is spoiled, He is spoiled, I know it.. He has however been able to accomplish ever task that has been asked of him and he really does a good job in class. I asked her after class because I am honestly confused. Isn't it okay for a dog to growl at another dog when they are nothering them? Isn't that how they tel them to stop? Isn't that how dogs read each other?

I am okay with if Jack growled at a dog as we were walking by, him being corrected and afterwards I told the trainer that, I honestly wanted to know. She back peddled quite a bit and said Yes Jack can say no and he can growl one time. So then I asked her why she called him a jerk if he was doing what is okay, She skated around the answer and I left confused. I am not trying to be defensive of my dog. I am open to correcting him but I am not okay with making him allow big dogs toss him around and him sit there and not try to correct the behavior, That just doesn't make any sense to me.

Like I said if the growl was unprovoked or if he was just being aggressive I would be the first one all over his little behind, I don't tolerate that. So what am I missing here?  How is Jack the jerk for telling another dog to knock it off?

Karen is absolutely correct!!!
Karen is TOTALLY correct on all points, whod does this lady think she is? I hope the other classmates started to think after that also and maybe there will be no more class for this trainer! So sorry, I know how you feel but DO NOT take it out on yourself or doodle. Evey dog is spoiled in some way and in someone's eyes! You should hear what my own family says about my dogs, they are my only kids and they have boundaries and basic obedience and from there we jus tlove them for waht they are! Fell better soon.

wow, reading this just boils my blood. Kudos to you for not punching this so-called "trainer" in the face. Drop this trainer, report him/her, and move on. This is ridiculous. I can't even get into why this trainer shouldn't be around dogs, I could go on and on. Poor Jack, and I feel bad for any other dog who ever comes into contact with this person.

To make Jack feel better, you should get him a new toy and jacket LOL

I would have said some bad words and left the class.  Congrats for being able to even stay in there - you must be calmer than I am :)

Get outta there while you still can!!!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more with Karen!   I would ask for my money back and tell her that I thought about it after leaving the class and no one smacks my dog or calls him a jerk.   She obviously isn't going to work in the best interest of your dog.   Hope you can find a better trainer.   Even if she refuses to give my money back, I wouldn't go back.   Sorry this happened to you and Jack.  :-(
I would have said that I am not using the trainer for a sitter. And after that type of behaviour I would have announced that I am no longer taking this course as I WALKED out and said, I excpect the refund to be mailed promptly thank you.
Do not confuses "well-care for" or even "indulged" with "spoiled."  Spoiled means they do not have to work for what they have, there are no expectations and they are allowed to get away with bad behaviour.  This does not sound like Jack.

I don't know how you managed to stay through the whole class.  What a dreadful woman (obviously jealous) No, definitely don't go back.  Leaving Dogs outside day an night is what those poor watchdogs do in those yards.  No way Jose. Nada.

To even say a Dog is a jerk that is in your class is crossing boundaries.  I don't know enough about the growling but it sounds like Jack was saying 'I'm not too sure about you and you're in my space' Pity you couldn't growl at her and let her know she was out of order and totally unprofessional.  THE END

Didn't read all the responses...but I think it might be time for a new trainer.

Does she use words like "jerk & brat" with other dogs?  Sometimes that is

just the way people speak without really meaning harm(I have probably called

my doodle both of those words when he is pestering my cat).  However, If someone was

paying me money - I would certainly not be calling their dog a "jerk or brat".

Many trainers do not like for owners to "baby" their dogs.  I think babying a

dog is just fine depending on what level of obedience you want to achieve.  She probably

thinks it is silly the way you treat Jack - but its your dog and you can treat him however

you want - especially if he is excelling in training.  She should have asked the owner

of the dog that was bothering Jack to get control of their dog NOT smack jack on the

nose.  Jack also needed to be corrected (just in a different manner). I will be honest

with you though....you do need to work with Jack on growling at other dogs because that

is an automatic fail in CGC or TDI (cant remember)...

I do think she was a little mad because you did not want her to dog sit.  She probably

thought that you think she is not good enough to watch Jack and she's not good

enough to watch him.  She wont give him the level of care you want for him.  That was

probably what all the attitude was about.

Get out of there.... and file a complaint!  That is ridiculous!

Hey! That sucks! Why do some people think that 'spoiled' is a BAD thing? I would have some words with that jerk of a trainer and ask for my money back. You're not supposed to let personal feeling affect your professional side. I bet if she had to list Jack's bad qualities and his good qualities, she would only have good!

And she obviously doesn't know Doodles. You don't leave a Doodle outside to fend for themselves. The love to be with their peeps. Find a new trainer.

I think I would quit that class and get a refund, if you can.  Karens post was great!
