I'm new here so I am sorry if this has been debated to death.....
We will be picking up our pup this weekend, our first dog is a very long time. That said, we hope she will become social enough to take on various trips, be it to the parks vacations, etc.
I was just wondering if you travel with your dog, do you tether the dog somehow to ensure safety? If so, what product do you use/or suggest?

Do you mean like seat belts and stuff?
Yup. I am just curious as to how folks travel with their dogs.
Here is an article I read a while back and it is about the reviews of restraints for dogs. http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303918804579109...
We crate our dogs as puppies, the crate becomes their den and they sleep there as well as travel in one. I worry less, they stay contained and there is easy clean-up when needed. The harness and seatbelts are being tested now and there are some good threads here, search on "auto harness" or "car harness" - but for a puppy you need a crate. A puppy will chew anything, new pup will whiz anywhere, and so on. I'm also fond of my upholstery :) this girl likes to chew.
We put the crate in the backseat and strap it down, when she got bigger and the crate did too, we flip down seats in the wagon and use the tie downs to anchor the crate. Our travel method is drive no more than an hour before stopping, so dogs get out stretch and move around. Leave house - on lead to car, into car and crate, lead off, close doors. Drive - stop, open doors, she waits, we hitch her up and off we go.
My sixteen month old is now ready for a harness, just not sure I am. I The downside of crate for travel is whether you load it up every time - but I feel it's safest and she hops in the car and heads in the crate. We added blanket/towel and have self warming pads for the crates.
The following is a link to another discussion regarding dog harness testing. Probably the only independent tests.

Thanks one an all.
I am only interested in keeping the dog in the back seat and not jumping and roaming around.
