Well, my DH and I took Rua to the pool for the Doggie Dip!  OMD...we have never seen anything like it!

There were people and dogs everywhere.  It was truly incredible.  I didn't think she would mind the water, as I mentioned below, she has always loved water.  I wasn't sure how she would do in a pool nor around so many dogs.

They had a kiddie pool...so I decided to take her it there first.  I walked her to the deeper end and low and behold, she started dog paddling!  Yeah.  So, we decided to go into the big pool.

In I went and then DH brought Rua to the edge.  She wanted to get to me...so he lowered her down and away she went.  It was incredible.  I couldn't walk backwards fast enough.  She swims like a little fish!  (Great picture, huh?  I was looking into the sun, squinting and had pool water in my eyes!)

She swam all over the pool...I really couldn't keep up with her she could swim so fast.  I would bring her back to the edge of the pool and help her out.  She would stand there with DH, shake off and look at me like 'I want back in'.  So, I backed away and called her...she would get to the edge and look down trying to figure out just how in the heck she was going to get to her Momma.  Well, she finally figured it out on her own...she lept in...just like a little dock diving dog.  OMD...I couldn't believe how far she could jump and she wasn't evening taking a running leap.

Next Sunday, they are doing another 'Doggie Dip' at another pool that is closing for the summer.  Yup, the three of us will be there!

***********************************************************************************************************

Right from the start, Rua has always loved water.  As a little puppy, she would walk into our open shower in the morning, often walking completely around the shower not minding at all that she got sopping wet.  She doesn't mind baths at all and will just stand there while I give her them.  As she got a little bigger, she was able, to my great surprise, to jump up onto the edge of my big corner tub and jump in (while I was in it trying for some relaxing Mommy-only time).

This kept on during last winter and spring to the point that I knew as soon as the weather got warm, I was going to get a pool.  Unfortunately, I just couldn't talk my DH into an in-ground pool...even after telling him it is for the grandkids...wink wink, like Sue (Murphy & Bella) did.  He quickly pointed out we didn't have any children, therefore, we weren't going to get grandkids.  So, I settled for this.

Watching Rua jump over the edge and play in the pool also had me thinking of her being a future "Dock Diving" champion...I remember seeing the beautiful painting that Linda (Toby) did from a Splash Dog competition.  I checked out the happenings in Omaha, and apparently found out that unlike Minnesota (land of 10,000 lakes) there aren't any here in Nebraska!

I really thought about going 3 doors down and asking my neighbors if they would mind if I brought Rua into their pool.  After thinking about it I figure that since we have lived here for over 2 years and never even met them, that might not be a good way to introduce ourselves.

Earlier this week, NE Humane Society posting on Facebook, there was going to be a "Doggie Dip" on Sunday at a pool not far from us.  Apparently, they are closing the pool after Sunday for the season (given we have been having weeks of unbelievable temps, seems kinda early to me) so for $5.00 (goes to Humane Society), your dog and 2 humans can play in the pool.

Now, here comes the True Love part.  I really want to take Rua because I think she would LOVE to play in the pool.  That means, though, I have to get in the pool.  Not that I mind getting into a pool or even a little swimming, but it means wearing a swimsuit in front of PEOPLE.  Considering I am a member of the new Satisfaction Diet Network that Adina started and need to lose 35-40lbs, I think it must be True Love.

Don't you?

Great photos and looks like fun for everyone!
Wow! Rua is an AWESOME little swimmer!!. I'm so glad you took her to the pool!  Was she swimming NAKED?
It is absolutely amazing how many people are there.  I sure wish we had something like that here.  Since we don't really have seasons our pools never close.  Therefore, there is never the opportunity to hold one of these events.  I have been dying to get Gracie Doodle into a pool.  She only has the ocean and bay...both she loves and swims way out to get her tennis ball.  I love the pictures...be sure to take more next weekend.  Way to go little Rua!!!
How fun!  I wonder how my guys would react.  I know my Springer would jump right in and Ned seems to like water but I don't think Clancy would.
Dori - what great pictures and what great fun!!!!  I'm going to have to have Rua over this winter when ya all come to her Grama's house, and have her give Rooney some lessons.  The boy will still not get near water even though Stuart swims.  I just loved looking at all the different dogs in the water - how cute is that.  Next weekend - video?

Dori, it looks so fun and sounds like all three of you had such a great time.  OMD!  Look at all those dogs and people.

UGH!  The things we do for our doodles... including putting on a bathing suit!  But you're lookin' great!  i can't believe how she loved it!  What a nice idea - for the dogs, and a great way to meet other 'dog-people'. Your pictures showed how much fun you and Rua had!  Loved them.  Bet you can't wait till next week!   ENJOY yourself!  I can't believe they're closing the pools already!
Dori, it is so much fun watching them swim and play in the water. I'm happy for you that Rua got a chance to enjoy a big girl pool this summer. I bet she slept the whole rest of the day.  I guess I didn't warn you that the "Pool for the grandkids" arguement does require at least the possibility of having them, adopting them or finding some runaways to take in.  Otherwise I bet DH was on to you pretty quick. My DH is still trying to figure it out, but he might be getting a little suspicious of my real intentions by now since Murphy is in the pool way more than anyone else. The jury is still out and I'm pleading the 5th on this one!

OH Dori, I love this event....I too was wondering why on earth so early. I think you look great by the way.

We have a similar event in the next city over, every year for Rosie's Rescue" but they don't allow the people in the pool, it's dogs only. I was planning to go last year but it ended up raining and I didn't want to stand in the rain while Daisy did or did not swim.

This year we will try again.

That is so awesome. I wish we had something like that around here. That would be sooo much fun! swimming without the rocks and mud of a lake ;-)

Sunny has a life jacket she wears in my pool. She just wants to climb on me when we're both in the pool, though. I don't think she likes it at all.

She's done the bath invasion thing though!

Thanks for the update Dori...

You look Wonderful and are quite the "fashionista"...as I knew you would be!

Rua looks...fabulous as usual.

Wow!  What a little swimmer she is...and jumping so far too!!

It sounded like such a fun day for all of you...
