OMG, I 'm freaking out. I tried to cut a mat from under Casey's chin and when she moved I cut her skin. It's pretty bad. I ran over to the vet right away and I have to bring her back in the morning for stitches. Ugh, I'm soooooo mad at myself and feel so bad for Casey!

She will be fine but I know you feel so guilty.  Hopefully you can get her used to the scissors again.  I did this to my cat, so don't feel too bad.  I think the guilt was the worst part.  He HATES scissors now and I can't blame him.

Aww - I'm so sorry!  That picture - her expression is for sure pitiful.  I'd be upset too - ok - so now after reading all these posts I'm not trying this at home - lol.

When I groom doodles, it is usually ME that gets cut! I have a few bandaids on my fingers by the time I am done! But one of my own doods always jerks her foot when I cut her nails and I have cut a nail too short almost every time I do her nails (and it never happenswhen I do other dog's nails.) I feel so sorry for her now since she has learned to HATE nail clipping--and of course, that makes her jerk her feet even more!

I have a mat zapper that I use on big mats as someone already mentioned--it looks like a comb with 4 or 5 teeth that are very long and one side is razor sharp (I should know-- I cut myself the other day!) There is a handle and a place to rest your thumb--it cuts the mats out. However, it is hard to use it in tight places, so it may not have worked on the chin. I also like the idea of using rounded scissors and just clipping at the mat until you can brush it out, rather than trying to cut the whole thing out at once.

That is me too! During Darwin's last cut I snipped a big chunk of my thumb off. Ouch!
