Cathie,  I don't know that it's "normal", but it seems common among the doodles here.    Banjo did that most often in the morning….sometimes before and sometimes after breakfast.    He is 4 now and rarely vomits…..once every 4-5 months I'd guess.     Some have said that feeding the dog a small biscuit before bed can help.

If it's early morning and an empty stomach with bile only coming up, a snack before bed is what worked for us, as Carol mentioned.

It was the same for us as Carol and Lori mentioned.

It helps to make sure they don't engage in vigorous exercise right before or after eating.

Is there any pattern to the vomiting at all? Time of day? Does it happen more often when he/she gets any certain type of treats or chews?

This does seem to be more normal for some, more than others. However, mine only throw up when they eat a 5# bag of flour. Joking, it's an old post I had, and they actually did eat it.

Oh Sue. That really was the worst ever!

I still have nightmares!! As for this pup, the empty stomach, playing before or after eating, too much water, or with new treats are about all the things I would think of as well. If it happens with no real rhyme or reason, then it;s probably a sensitive doodle tummy thing. Next time you see it happen try to think of the cause or ask your vet the next visit you have, as your post doesnt seem to indicate any real problems otherwise.

Or drinking ocean water......  :-}

Kona will throw up if he drinks a lot of water at once. When is it happening? Any pattern to the issue?

I had to get use to the throw up thing. My son threw up only three times and he's 14 so I am not that good with it. Oddly, Toby will throw up for no reason. I have learned that when I over feed him, it triggers an upset. Maybe don't feed him so much . It may feel a bit harsh as food is something we are so happy to give, but they don't seem to do as well as humans. We can over eat, feel uncomfortable and live with it. They just purge. I am sure you are giving him good stuff, maybe just taper it down. Good luck.

With Toby, one could make smaller portions and put  create an extra meal.  Maybe this would work for Cathie's doodle also.
