Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I just have to say - 1 - i love my dog and want him to be 100% at all times.
2. I am so frustrated right now I just don't know what to do...
I woke up this morning to my wonderful goldendoodle, Coffee having green pus coming out of his eyes. I worried about him all day and called my mother back home in michigan who has two standard poodles about if i should go to the vet. She said her poodle just had had the same problem and they only charged her $10 to pick up the eye infection cream. I just went to the vet - got the same medicine - and was charged $146 for the same exact thing. they insisted on seeing my dog and of course they charged me for a visit, for some test that took one second and of course was negative and 30 for the same medication.
I'm like sick about this....
So - my question is... where can i find a vet i can trust.... one who isn't going to try and charge hundreds of dollars for an obviously non expensive issue. I mean - i am willing to pay but how can this be so different? My dog had diarrhea a month ago and they charged me three hundred dollars for a bag of food and pepto.
Does anyone know a vet in jersey that doesn't charge like this? I just want a vet I can trust. I live in jersey city, but i'd drive a couple hours for the right vet.
Let me know!
Thanks,

I have been to 2 vets in my new city and am not too impressed with either (one said that protein isnt important to a dog!!!!!). when Cooper is due her wellness exam and titers im going to go into Michigan (as opposed to here in Ontario) and see a vet a local breeder (who feeds raw) recommended. they charge 1/4 the price for titers as my vet here
Ask the vet to write you a prescription for what ever medication is needed and get it filled at Walmart. Get the generic version. There is a huge mark up for medications at the Vet's office. They really do need to see the dog to diagnose and treat properly. At least until you have a relationship with them. I have been able to get them to give me tapeworm medication without seeing the dog but anything else requires a visit. I would worry about a Vet that would prescribe for an eye infection without looking at the eye. It's expensive. Seda had a tumor on her foot pad that I examined by my Vet. She picked the top off of it, stuck a needle in it and looked at the cells under the microscope. It was 90.00 and three days later the thing started shrinking and was gone in a week!
