Has anyone else discovered a very small (about 1/8" in diameter) hard bump underneath their doodle's skin? I noticed this yesterday on Noah's chest area - near his right leg. I want to say it's a very small cyst, although I'm not sure. The bump is hard and round and does not move underneath his skin. The skin on top looks slightly flaky, but that could be because I keep looking at it and maybe it's getting irritated. I'm not overly concerned at this point because I suspect it could be like a pimple. The skin color is not abnormal I was thinking about monitoring it for a week and if it changes, to have my vet look at him.
All of my dogs have had little lumps and bumps at one time or another. They're usual sebaceous cysts or little harmless fatty tumors. Last year, Jack had a weird little growth removed that turned out to be some odd type of mole.
I would have the vet look at it simply because if it's under the skin, hard and not moving, chances are it isn't going to resolve by itself. It may need to be opened up or removed.
I wouldn't worry, but I would get it checked out.
the only time I have seen this was on my sisters dog. it was a hard lump near one of her shoulders and it was caused ny a shot that she had at the vets a few weeks before. I don't think your vet wud give a shot on Noah's chest so it is probably not caused by anything like this. I wud get it checked out. Boy these babies of ours can cause worry, can't they?
Cysts are usually moveable under the skin. Fatty tumors are usually soft. It could certainly be a foreign body granuloma, which get hard, something that forms around something such as a splinter. I do think at some point you may need to have the vet look at it.
Peri has one of these - looks just like a pimple. My vet says it is no cause for concern - it does not bother her in the least. But still have your vet check it out if it makes you feel better.
This sounds so much like the thing Timbow got on his nose. We went to the vet and she said to keep an eye on it, but she thought it would go away on it's own. It did. :) Here's the link to my question about it. http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/bump-on-nose
I'm so glad to have found this old discussion. I want to add the word, nodule to this (for search purposes). Rip has one and the pic and place is pretty much identical. I will add my pic. Rippley's nodule now on day two has reduced in size - not at protruding as before...
