I need some suggestions on how to make Sheba look more girly.  EVERYONE calls her a boy.  Is it because of her color and the fact that she has a beard (which I adore)?   : )  lol

I thought I'd start with a new collar and tag.   I find it hard to find a collar that looks good with her coat color. Also, it needs to be sturdy as she is a VERY active dog.  Any suggestions on what color collar would look good on her but make her look more feminine?  I'm stumped.  

Here is what she is wearing now.  I bought it at REI which sells camping and sporting goods. I found that it snags easily and doesn't hold up too well.  (Not the greatest photo of the collar, sorry!)  The collar does look kinda boyish, I guess.

Here are a couple photos that show her coat color.  Oh, and speaking of her coat color, does anyone want to make a suggestion on what color she is?  Sable?  Merle? Brindle?

I still don't know!

Quite a few people have suggested pink. I like pink and it's a definite option. I wish I knew for sure what her coat color is. A lot have people have told me they thought she is a merle. Merle, sable & brindle have been what I've heard the most.

I was looking again at her picture with the haircut. Those dark "spots"make her more of a merle in my mind. Here is a link to one of the founders of the ALD, who is back breeding again, after much hoopla. The coat of Shirazz is somewhat like Sheba.

BTW, Neither of my doodles has a beard and people never know who's a she or he. I do think, excuse my 2 cents, Sheba would look great with a shorter cut under her chin. No more wet beard either : ).

No problem with adding your 2 cents! I did cut it down months back. Actually, I like it both ways. I do think her beard looks better when her fur is long. Wet beard drives me crazy at times, especially when Duke uses me as his napkin when he's done drinking! lol

Thanks for the photo Barb. It's a great example of how Sheba may look in pink. I like this picture of Murphy, he looks very handsome!! Ha ha, you're right, he doesn't look thrilled. Purple/lavender was also a suggestion....what do you think.....

Get her a pink collar, she is so beautiful! Because I have always had male dogs going back since I was young. I always refer to dogs as he. I shouldn't I know, but I do. I think a pink collar would help. I wouldn't say he if it had a pink collar.

I change up my dog's collars all the time. There are some really girly ones out there. Fudge is wearing one with cows on it (not very girly), but I have one with Flip Flops waiting in the wings. I know the Lupine ones come with a guarantee. Personally, I like the pattern collars versus the solid color collars. Try googling girl dog collars too.

I think it's hard to get people to realize what gender a dog is ... almost no matter what they wear around their neck. But since pink is so quintessentially 'girly' and the most obvious girly color out there (red could go either way), I think a very pink collar with a very wide band (since she is the furry cutie she is...anything but the widest option will get lost in her coat). But, even with that on, I would still expect her to be sometimes called "he". Natalie was addressed with "hey buddy" even while wearing a funky girls outfit (but not pink!) and once she had a headband on and an older woman asked what she was...so...people are kinda dumb sometimes. I, for one, analyze an outfit completely before referring to anyone's baby as 'he' or 'she' if I don't know the gender. I will at least ask "what's your baby's name?" ;-)
