Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have always wondered how important it is for people to make our dogs smell pretty, or use the doggie colognes?

I went to a wholesale dog supply place recently and there were rows and rows of every scent imaginable in shampoo's, conditioners, spray on deodorizers, fresheners, scents, colognes, you name it. There must be a market for it but I don't believe we ever really discussed it here.

Is anyone using these? Does it interfere with their natural doggie scents and how other dogs percieve them? I know my puppy and daughters doodle are very attracted to my Vanilla Victoria's Secret lotion and try to lick it off my legs, so I wonder how scents on other dogs would attract them.  Just a random thought....

Caitlin...it sounds like you really pamper your Dood!!
I'll bet he loves that special time...
I wonder if he likes the belly rub or the treats better?? (smile)
Any way you look at it...Albus sure gets the "Royal Treatment"...and...probably smells..."Oh So Good"!!
I don't understand either...and I wish I did...
Sasha licks...and...her beard gets and stays wet...probably like all Doods (smile)
Not sure about why some do and some don't...but...I know I've been reading about it on DK...for a while.
It's interesting...
I didn't know if it had anything to do with shedding and non-shedding Doodles??
About the breath...not sure...maybe about what type of food they eat?
I really don't know...but...it would be a great discussion...
Oh...and Sasha wants to make sure that I tell you...to tell Darwin...That She Loves The Sour Smell!! Lol...
Cooper gets a bath every 3 or 4 months - but I use Earthbath Mango Tango spritz in between

When she was loosing her puppy fur she really stank - i think it was all the dead fur in her mats. Her beard used to stink but I keep it trimmed now and shes ok

Now she doesnt smell too much - her feet smell a little corn chippy if i get close to them, and her head smells occasionally when she needs a good ear cleaning ewwww

I just sent Cooper to DH to see what she smells of - he says Mango Tango.... though it has been about 2 weeks since I sprayed her!

Often, she smells of smoked bones..... or whatewver she has just been chewing. Thankfully no bad breath, just food smells
With every Doodle Hug, I spend time just smelling her. I just love her natural Girl scent... Occasionaly she will end up with a perfume smell because of my daughter. Oatmeal shampoo is the best!
Our pack get a bath once a month with a herbal soap called Shampoochie that has Cedarwood, Citronella, Eucalyptus, Patchouli, and Tea Tree oil in it. It leaves them smelling wonderful, kind of woodsy. The Cedarwood, Citronella, Eucalyptus helps keep fleas away too.
Wow! Sure does sound like a wonderful scent. I wonder where I can get this shampoo.
http://www.shampoochie.com/ Just checked it out online. Sounds nice. Love that it's soap as I sure waste a lot of shampoo it seems.
I always thought the doggy smell had to do with the shedding dogs. To me the coats and skins are different from the non-shedders'. I think the frito smell must be non-shedders also but not all of them so.....
Z my GR sheds big time, all year round. Her coat is rather water resistent, she gets maybe 4-6 shower a year, and she smells like pancake & maple syrup on her head. She has very strong corn chip smelling paws - I love it!

K my GD does not shed, hardly mats now that his coat is kept shorter. We try to shower him more often since his cream color coat attracts dirt. He gets a shower probably once every 6-8 weeks. He does have the sour chin smell, but other than that he smells like freshly sun-dried laundry. His paws smell a bit like raw beef?!

We use Aesop Animal Shampoo and Chris Christensen Day to Day. We apply Burt's Bee Insert Repellent on them, so sometimes our neighbors comment that they smell like they just stepped out of a spa.
