Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

The time has come to seriously think about replacing my Civic and since my dog will be ready to take home shortly, I need to think about his needs too.  For those with standard sized doodles what kind of vehicle do you drive?

I am a Honda guy so I have been seriosly thinking about a CR-V or more likely an Element because my girlfriend has a lab and being able to take the back seats out would make it super easy to carry around two 70ish pound dogs.  Does anyone own either or these vehicles and if so how do you like it?

I have had SUV for my dogs for years and love them, my latest car is a Lexus RX400h (hybrid) and I have three doods - 2 standards and 1 medium. There is room in the back seat that has a great seat cover designed especially for it.  I secure two in the back seat and one in the rear cargo area; they all travel in car harnesses now after my friend was in a severe crash with her dog and it saved the dog's life for sure.  (Champion harness).   I have traveled with 5 doods in the SUV and I am really happy with the gas mileage 25 city and I am not sure about highway but I think it is about 30 MPG.

When I was shopping for a "Doodlemobile" I looked at several Honda's CRV and Element, and the Odyssey but I was not impressed with the mileage or safety ratings. My friend is still shopping for a car and has so far liked the Ford Flex - it seemed to offer the best seat configuration and safety rating - we also looked at the Jeep Cherokee, Ford Edge but we have not made it to the Toyota's yet and plan to look at them.

Good luck with your shopping - let us know what you buy!

This is Murphy's vehicle........

But now I have Finnegan and Murphy doesn't share. Plus he told me there is only one seat belt.

I am looking at the CRV and the Ford Escape right now...but I will keep Murphy's ride.

Murphy looks good in his ride-it's a keeper
This picture is SO funny!  I love the look on his face.  Murphy is determined...this car is his.  You are merely the person who drives him around :-)
haha love it...he has a personal driver!
I have a Ford Escape and like it but I only drive like 20 miles per week, let me know if you have questions!
We have a Chevy Trailblazer (3 minis though) lots of room
2011 Subaru Outback.  Two doodles, 45# small standard and 35# medium.  Love my new Outback.  Plenty of room, excellent gas mileage (368 mile on a half tank of gas), plenty of pep (4 cyl. boxter engine) and a very comfortable ride.  I took it into the Smokey mountains and didn't have any trouble getting up the grades.  I traded in an 8 cyl. Hemi engine to get this 4 cyl. so for me to say it's peppy is pretty good.  The 6 didn't have as good mileage as the 4.  What's the hurry anyway :-)
I have a Kia Sorento...big back seat that can go down, but the trunk is also huge so Parker (who is a standard dood) can stand up in the trunk if he needed to. Right now he sits up by mommy tho..in his seat belt!

Here is a link to a survey type discussion I had not too long ago. http://www.doodlekisses.com/forum/topics/need-doodlemobile   Hope you can get something from there too.

As it turned out, I decided to keep my 2010 Lexus SUV after many many hours of test driving the Honda, Toyota, Jeep, VW. Mazda and Kia SUV's. Nothing compared in power, interior room for doodles and especially gas mileage. I can get over 23-24 mpg around town and 28ish on the road. And it has a very powerful V6.   I do a lot of mountain driving around Arizona and it has awesome power on some very steep grades.

The doodles have plenty of room to both lay down, Both are around 60-65 pds

Well, I have bought a car.  A little sooner than I wanted, but my Civic finally got to the point where repairs were getting too costly.  I didn't end up getting a Honda and I didn't end up getting an SUV.  I ended up with a 2011 Camry SE.  The price, incentives, loan terms, and the features on the car were too good to pass up.  I had to compromise on size and fuel economy since I have to drive so far to work everyday.
I have a 2008 Ford Explorer Ironman edition (it has a V8). It's great for my dood!! I've driven as many as 3 doods in it before.
