what kind of couch do you have...

hello all!! i have a question.. i have a 10 1/2 month old goldendoodle.. 80 lbs. we currently have 2 couches that were given to my by a co worker. they dont really go with my apartment so well..but they were free and we had just gotten Midas (our doodle) and we knew it wasnt a good idea to buy brand new couches just then... i am now thinking of getting a couch.. Midas currently is allowed on the couch and does sometimes jump around on it.. i know i should stop that..but its hard because i do like to cuddle him on the couch as well.. basically my question is..what kind of couch do u have? leather, suede, micro fiber? how does it hold up with your dog on the couch if your doodle is allowed on the couch.. the one i am looking it is a micro fiber sectional...brown.. whats ur advice? get the new couch..or hold off til hes older and calmer? or go for it and work on not allowing chaos on the couch?? thanks please lmk ur advice asap as i have to go look at the couch tonight! xoxo

Look for a couch with removable slipcovers that can be washed. I have 2 dogs who are always on the couch and even with blankets on top, the fabric still gets dirty. These have been a lifesaver for me. Pottery barn used to have them, not sure if they still do.

Pottery barn still has them! And there is a sale today haha! Such a good idea! I've been dreaming of getting white couches but hate that my pups always come inside from the yard with dingy feet!

We have leather couches.  Luna DEFINITELY sheds and we rarely see any of her hair on the couches.  We have two couch sets - one navy and one dark brown ("raisin") and neither shows Luna's light golden hair or any scratches.

I have leather couches and I was worried that little toenails might scratch or puncture them but I see no signs of wear. I have a microfiber recliner and it does have to be cleaned. We had a Golden Retriever prior to getting Daphne and her hair did get all over it. Not as easy to keep nice looking like leather that can just be washed off.

My only advice is to get a couch low enough to the floor that a tennis ball can't roll under it. lol

Alternatively you can forbid balls in the house. I did this after Luca ripped the couch tryinh to retrieve a ball under the couch.

Luckily, Gavin is a real gentleman when the ball rolls out of sight.  He silently sits before me and glances at me, then at the spot the ball went under the couch, then back to me, back to the spot and will do so eternally until either I send him away or (more likely) get down on my hands and knees and retrieve it for him.  Indoor fetch is a staple in this household!

The get down on your hands and knees was no fun. It wasn't only under the couch either. And Luca is a verbalizer so he would constantly tell me to dig under the couch. Until he decided to take matters into his own paws. End of balls in the house. Life is tough ; )

Oh man... but then you'd have to get one that was too low for bones too!  I don't think they make those... Luna has lost her antler under the couch MANY times.
