Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

After being on DK for a month or so now, I have noticed all the cute and creative names of our sweet doodles.

I thought it might be fun to see how everyone came up with their doodle names.

After reading "A Dog's Purpose" this summer, I decided to name my puppy Bailey after one of the dog's in the book.  He had such a wonderful spirit.  I only hope my girl has the same soul as Bailey did in the book.http://www.adogspurpose.com/

And if you haven't read it.....you need too...It's wonderful....Make's you look at animals in a whole new light.

So, how did your dood get's it's name?

My Riley is named because my partner remarked that any dog of ours would have the 'Life of Riley' and so it came to pass!
I had a Schnauzer named Reilly.  Named after my mom's maiden name.  Love it
I am old enough to remember a television show called the "Life of Riley."

When we got Lucy and decided on the name Lucy I felt she needed a second name.  My DD started laughing and said that when she was 8, and watching the I Love Lucy shows, she thought they were saying Lucy O'Ball and not Lucille Ball.  So.....we nowhave a Lucy O'Ball and of course Ethel Mae Muttz is her best friend named after Ethel Mae Mertz.

Jane, your doodle names are so cute and make a great pairing of course.
Cooper is my maiden name.
Halas is named after George Halas, founder of the Chicago Bears.
I always need to be reminded of this, Leslie.  It is such a great name, why can't I remember where it came from???
I named my puppy Sophie mostly because all my past dogs names had the e sound. Lassie, Wendy, Sadie and Pokey. Sophie came from the movie The Illusionist. I did get some comments from family that Sophie was to similar to Sadie but I don't care. Actually Sophie's mothers name is Sadie...:)

Our breeder called one night and said one of the owners who took a puppy just called to say she couldn't take care of a puppy and would the breeder find her another home.  Apparently the woman had just gotten divorced after 40+ years of marriage and her children decided she needed something to take care of.  When the breeder picked up the puppy, she was in the basement, in a crate and had messed herself because the owner had been leaving her there for long periods of time.  Also the owner said that she was hard to take care of because when she messed in the cage it got in her hair and she didn't want to have to bathe a dog everyday.  Needless to say the breeder took the puppy out of that home as soon as she could.  Breeder call me and asked me to come and meet the puppy on the way back to her home.  The mid-point was at a Feeder's Supply and it was almost 10pm.  My daughter laughed and commented on how "shady" this looked and hoped that we wouldn't be arrested for puppy trafficing!   When we got there the puppy was all of 12 weeks old, about 15 or 16 lbs and a BALL OF FUR!!!  Breeder said the other "owner" had named her Bailey.  I looked at my daughter and said, I'm not a big Bailey's drinker, I like Kahlua better.  My daughter and I looked at each other and said it at the same time....that's a perfect name!  Hence her name, Miss Kahlua!

I am so glad Kahlua found her way to you :) Love the name.

Laurie, it was surely meant to be.  As I had been talking to the breeder for a while and just couldn't commit.  I was looking to get pup in the spring of 2009, but Kahula came into our lives and so glad that she did.
