The person that USED TO PROVIDE MY CHILDCARE lost her job this afternoon.  This family adopted a two year old Min Pin named Dexter a little over a month ago.  One of their other dogs marked in the house and even marked the couch.  When they brought Dexter home he of course wanted to mark, which they considered him not being housebroke.  So instead of taking the time to train him they put him outside to live.  I found out about this two weeks ago when my DD started going there.  Since then I have asked a couple of friends about giving him a home.  Well this afternoon when I went to pick DD up Dexter wanted to go inside.  This person put her foot out to block him and Dexter peed out of fear.  She started yelling, cussing and proceeded to kick this little guy right in front of me.  The words that came out of my mouth are not even fit to share.  I told her I knew someone that would give him a home and took the little guy with me.  Now Dexter is safe in a crate while I'm waiting to hear from the Min Pin Rescue.  My DD doesn't understand and I'm not in the right frame of mind to explain it.

Thanks for listening.

Oh my gosh.. That is terrible.. I mean you would think that the person would try to put on a front in front of someone who's child they are watching.. If she did that in front of you, I can just imagine what she did behind closed doors to that animal.

Before I became a nurse, I was first a nanny for years, then a day care worker, then a day care director.. I can tell you without a doubt that someone who has the capacity to hit or kick a dog can do that to a child. It is a matter of not having self control.

I hope you find a better child care provider soon. Thank you for rescuing that dog from that living hell...

Good points!

Tina, thank you for coming to the rescue.  The only thing I would add to the other comments is that I would call the police to document the incident, hopefully something like this will never happen again but.....

You did the right thing. I was a childcare provider for many years and to read this gave me tears. It's a sin to treat animals or humans badly...yet in front of children. Honestly, she needs reported. Thank you for helping that poor little dog. I just spent 4 days at my DH family and they have the sweetest
5 lb Min Pin.
Tina, Today, you are my hero!! Thank you and I hope the dog finds a happier home. I agree that you should report her.
omg, you did the right thing.....absolutely. This makes me sick. You should have kicked this woman in the face repeatedly, at the very minimum. I could write a whole set of book with volumes about how angry this makes me, but being in the company of all of you, I'm sure you all feel the same way. Why would people even get a dog if all they're going to is treat them like crap? ARGH!!! This makes me so angry.
I am so glad that your daughter does not have to go there and see these type of behavior from an adult any more. I am also glad that Dexter is now safe....
Tina, good for you and for the little puppy.  Please do report the incident to the police.  This woman could decide to say you stole her dog.   By reporting it right away, you're not likely to be put on the defensive.  Ask the police where you stand in regards to the law, as well.  You do want to help that puppy, but you don't want to break the law while doing it.  Good luck!  Tally me in with those who think you are my hero!

I was worried about the same thing. Sometimes I fantasize about 'stealing' a golden retriever named Coco from this short greasy jerk guy who lives in my apartment building, but I always get nervous that he would accuse me of stealing. Then I realize I'm day dreaming again and it didn't actually happen in real life...

Reporting early is best just to be safe.

Tina-you did the right thing, for gtting rid of her and taking the dog out of harms way-my thought also was will she report you for taking her dog? I think you did the right thing in the moment and don't know if I would be strong enough to take the dog. I hope she doesn't have any more or kids!
Someone who could be that cruel to a dog should definitely not be trusted around kids, IMO. You did the right thing! I hope that pup finds a great new home.

Update

I contacted my friend that works dispatch for the county sheriff's office so this will not come back to bite in the butt.  To answer a few questions.  She has 2 kids, 3 cats and 2 labs.  Works as a teaching assistant for the pre-school, coaches girls b-ball cheerleading, coaches kids soccer and is the soccer league community coordinator.  One of the disadvantages to living in a small community is anonymity does not exist and that has never stopped me before.  Messing with me is one thing, but messing with the welfare of children and pets is not acceptable.  Especially when it comes to my DD.  Sometimes you just have to reach out and touch someone.  Having contacts with DHS and the school system can be very helpful in situations like this.  So with all the spare time I have "Defeat and Destroy".

Dexter is relaxing in his crate and doing great.  One of our friends may adopt him tomorrow.  If not, Dexter will be fostered by someone until he gets a new home.

All the nice comments are greatly appreciated.  Thank you
