Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My journey:

I first found my first puppy in Indianna, I was going to get him shipped, he was affordable, too good to be true.  Such that a after googling the breeders name , found out they were part to the "top 100 worst puppy mills in the US." WITH a USDA report of grotesque conditions dated in 2010 (the breeder tried to justify that they had fixed it, where there should have never been anything to fix in the same place)

Then I found another pup that was relatively close that I was suppose to go pick up on the 18th.  I posted pics and you knowledgeable people warned me that the coat would most likely shed because it was from the f3 line.   When I asked the breeder she assured me she wouldn't have matched me with a dog that shed knowing my personal choice and so I decided to keep him for better or for worse.

Only by sheer luck, I was looking at some pics and saw a familiar picture.... the dog she said was Nimby's mom is listed as a stock folder on :

AND

I asked he if this dog was Nimby's mom to give her a change to explain and she admitted it was.  Well, Wiki gives credit to the picture as can been seen in the 2nd link.

I have since requested that she cancel the adoption.....

LESSON: do you research.  I thought I had hit all my bases but twice , I'v had deceitful people try and pass a dog that just isn't.  If I wanted a dog that shed I would def. rescue, so here I am , puppy less and looking again, for a breeder who has pups STILL available.

I hope this will help future people from the heartache and the deceit I am feeling right now.

big bad bummer for me :(

oh, so sorry to hear this--and as a person who assists a breeder, I can tell you that we now are reserved through August for pups--but we run a very small operation with one litter at a time in our homes--that is the way to go and it will take patience--find good breeders and visit them BEFORE you get a pup--see how they operate and ask for references of people who have gotten pups from them before....or start a discussion on DK and tell people what area of the country you are looking in and ask people to private message you with references of good breeders in your area.

We get a lot of requests for puppies in the Spring when everyone wants a new pup so they can housebreak them in the summer--a lot of people find out that they have to wait and then we never hear from them again--I often wonder what kind of pup they end up with when they are in a hurry and willing to buy a pup sight unseen or from a breeder who is churning out pups in large numbers--I guess you can get lucky and many have--but be patient--it will pay off.

Have you looked at our group of Owner Recommended Breeders? This is where I found my breeder and you might find one within driving distance. THese breeders meet the criteria of "What to look for in a breeder". My breeder is in Mich and does ship her pups, which I did twice with her and they were fine. Good luck to you
The list we have does save you hours of research, just stick with those on the list and you've avoided the NOT recommended breeders. My feeling has always been that DK does not want to go in the negative direction nor name names as that would lead to a lot of controversy, but that's just my impression.

So sad that it turned out this way for you, but hoping and knowing you will find the right breeder with the perfect puppy for your needs!

I am so sorry, but so grateful you found the right information. There are good breeders. I hope you find the right one soon.

I see you are in Denver. Jarka, Monty and Auggie are from Denver. You might friend her and PM her about breeders.

I was going to message you but I messed up and asked you to be my friend and now I have to wait until you say yes to send you a private message. So I just posted it here. That's all I know. ;o) Other than Monty and Auggie are wonderful as is their mom.

Do you have your heart set on a puppy?  You might consider adopting a doodle from DRC.  Good luck in your search,

DRC requires prior dog ownership as an adult, with vet records in the applicant's name.

I started researching Labradoodles in 2010 and decided on an Australian Labradoodle because I need the consistency in lack of shedding (though I absolutely love the Goldendoodle look and fleecy coat). I was convinced I'd be going with a reputable Texas breeder, but we were delayed by having another child, moving, having a second terminally ill sheltie, etc. But, in 2013, I decided I really liked a particular breeder out of state. I cannot find a single negative review of them or any of their dogs anywhere. Squeaky clean! They book way in advance. So, I got on a list last November for puppies who had not even been conceived. Now, my puppy flies here in May, arriving on a small plane flown by the breeder's son! It has been a very long process, but I am hoping all the research pays off with a healthy and happy dog. Best of luck to you!

Loveadoodle,

What a wonderful list! I think most of the items on here are wonderful! This is a great starting point. As far as smart, that will be hard to tell as a puppy I think. Smart parent dogs probably make intelligence more likely, but even then you never know (we had a champion sired chesapeake that was dumber than nails-truly. we got obedience refunds). Your requirement for loving cats will come with lots of socialization work and with a very cooperative cat lol. Cuddle monster can be predicted a bit- you probably would want to lean more towards the mellow and calm puppies in the litter rather than the ones who run right up to you. I have a red doodle baby and so I can totally relate to the wonder of the red doodle. I LOVE her color, but it has changed a bit with time and as much as I love it, you could dye her permanently green tomorrow and I would still think she was the most wonderful and beautiful goldendoodle on the planet.

I truly believe that you will find a doodle puppy that is perfect for you! You are definitely in the right place to find lots of caring people to help guide your search and offer help where they can!

Join the Photography Group. We have all sorts of discussions from Photos of Dogs 1 and 2, to dogs running towards you etc.

Yes there is and it is great!
