I have noticed all of the big furry tails in most of the goldendoodle pictures.  Chewie's tail is so skinny.  Do you think that his tail will get fuller as his coat changes?

They fan out as they get older. Darwin's only recently started to fan out... in the last couple of months. He is eight months old.
It should fan out in the next few months! You will notice it start slowly, but once it starts it gets pretty long! :)
Lilly was closer to 1 yr. old before hers took shape.

Wow - Now that is a tail !!! I love how full it is.
Spud's looked like a rat tail with sparse hair. He has a gorgeous tail since he was 5 months old. My black goldendoodle foster who is 8 months still has a sparse tail but I have noticed the 3 days with me her entire coat is changing for the better. Hopefully her tail will too.
Murphy's tail looked like a skinny long stick for the first 4-5 months, and then he had about a one inch in length growth that finally made a little fan and we were so excited. From there it has grown to what you see in the picture. He's 13 months old now. And it's looked like this since around 7-8 months.
It;s long, about 6-7 inches (hair, not tail ;) ) and I keep it long cuz we love the way the hair fans down when he has it up and wagging, which is most of the time. I am waiting for it to get a little thicker now as it's mostly a one long 6-7 inch layer. It has no curl in it at all. i think Chewies is like Murphy's, more like a retriever tail

That is such a cute tail. Chewie is 5 months so maybe it will start to change soon.
Thanks, the rest of the dog is pretty cute too. I know how you feel tho, I was starting to feel a little dissappointed by 5 months and then it changed. Felt kinda silly, being dissappointed over a tail, but it really is part of the doodle package. I don;t think I have seen very many that DON'T have nice long or thick tails. What do her parents look like and siblings? Guess you could go by them.
The tail usually gets fuller as they get a bit older. Finn's tail was pretty sad looking but now it's full. See pics.

Nice comparison Linda. Thanks
Gracie's tail looks a lot like Lilly's. Hers started coming in around 1 year. The upper part of the tail where it attaches is curly and the Doodle hair. We have trimmed that down a few times because it continues to grow down the tail covering the "plume" which is pure Golden Retriever "fur". That part is very coarse and if she would shed, that would be the only spot. Totally a different texture than the rest of her hair. The plume we have never trimmed. She will be 3 yrs old this May.

Beautiful tail! I don't see Murphy's getting that thick, but he's only 13 months. i had thought about trying to make it a little layered to get some thickness with shorter hair mixed with longer, but it would thin out the feathers too much possibly. Guess I am gonna just be happy with whatever he ends up with.
