Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Since I have been a member on DK, I have learned so much useful information and a lot about members’ dogs. I know about the illnesses that afflict some DK doodles. I know which dogs are picky eaters and which ones have poop issues or behavior problems. But it dawned on me, that with a few exceptions, I don’t really know much about the humans of DK. Many of us recently stepped out of our comfort zones to post pictures of ourselves on our profiles, but there is no lasting record of that. I know that DK members are compassionate people that are truly invested in the lives of their doodles, but what makes you tic? Who are you when you have to step away from DK and enter the real world (the horror!!)? So I challenge you to give us a little info about the person behind the dog.
I’ll go first.
Name: Amy
Location: Dyer, IN (35 minutes outside of Chicago)
Generation: Millennial (http://www.cnn.com/interactive/2011/05/living/infographic.boomer/in...)
Birth Order: Oldest of 3 kids – the only girl
Family: Husband, no kids
Education: Purdue and DePaul
Occupation: CPA – I work as a tax analyst for a Steel Mill. I hope to work as a Business Officer for a Public School in the near future; I want to feel like my job actually matters.
Biggest Fear: I have a phobia of grasshoppers. Yes, I know they don’t bite or anything but they just really freak me out. They blend into their surroundings and when you least expect it they jump/fly around…yuck
General: super organized, sometimes impatient, a planner – not a spur of the moment type of person, shy – I much prefer to sit back and take it all in rather than be the center of attention, obsessed with details, cautious (I was going to list the craziest thing I had ever done, but then I couldn’t come up with anything so I had to leave it out!), and incredibly sarcastic – but I swear, I am NOT as boring as I sound!!
If I could have any pet (that isn’t a doodle), I would love to have: A big fat penguin – one of those cute cartoony looking ones.
Addiction: A new yogurt place recently opened here (called Red Mango). You go in and fill up a cup with as much or as little yogurt/soft serve ice cream as you want and then you can top it with all kinds of great toppings (candy, cookies, fruit, choc syrup, etc). I have become an addict, especially now that it has gotten warm outside. I go there at least once a week, and I’m sure it will get worse before it gets better.
Random Useless Fact About Me: I have eaten oatmeal almost every weekday morning since October 2009
Guilty Pleasure TV Show: Sister Wives -- I have no idea how I got started watching it, but now I am hooked.

Name:Jarka (pronounced Yarka), official name Jaroslava (celebration of spring in Slovak)
Location:Denver, Colorado
Generation:who knows, we don't have these in Slovakia ('74)
Birth Order: an only child
Family: DH, no kids, but I'm a grandma to my husband's grand-kids ;-)
Education: City University of Seattle: BA and MBA in General Management and Marketing
Occupation: degree audit coordinator for University of Colorado at Boulder. In other words, setting up a system that tells the students what courses they need to take. Used to work as an academic advisor for my whole working career (1996-2008), finally trading students for a computer work in 2008. If I had it my way, I would win the lottery, quit my job and spend all the time with my DH and my doodle. Life it too short to spend it sitting behind a desk away from home.
Biggest Fear: I contemplate every day whether leaving my family was the right thing to do and dreading the time when I would have to think about how to take care of my mom who lives back in Europe.
General: A procrastinator, a tough girl on the outside, trust no one kind of girl. Introverted and quiet with people I don't know, love interacting online rather than in person (wow, I start to sound like a freak...).
If I could have any pet (that isn’t a doodle), I would love to have: Probably more dogs. Or cats. Or anything that is not an insect or a snake. I love animals and once wanted to be a vet.
Addiction: Good food (preferably anything that's salty and fried) and red wine, Facebook, DK.
Random Useless Fact About Me: Born in Slovakia (former Czechoslovakia), came to the US for an internship in 2001. Married a guy twice my age and loving it. I would love to open a healthy dog/cat food store. See, I downsized. Originally it was going to be a huge doggie daycare/resort.
Guilty Pleasure TV Show: Fascinated by reality shows like "Say yes to the dress", "Hoarders", "Dr. Phil". These just make me feel better about myself. My forever love is MacGyver, though, and that will never change.
Can't wait to meet you in person, Jarka. I LOVE "Say Yest to the Dress" too. And I am so old that one of my sons used to pretend he was McGuyver, haircut and all - this was not during re-runs.
Yarka, like Yam and Yelly, you've answered my question as to how you pronounced your name.:>)
Fun Fact about "Say Yes to the Dress": Did you know that Randy was Miss Gay America 1990? http://fitnyc.edu/6629.asp There was a picture online, but I can't seem to find it right now. He looked really pretty though.
No kidding! :-)
Way to go, Kimmy! I remember watching MacGyver on Austrian television back in '87 or so....my country was still under communism so we did not get to see anything coming from "the West". I did not understand a single word in German, but I knew I was in love with MacGyver. He rocks! Once I moved to US, one of the first things I did was to order the whole series on DVD. And I could not make myself watch the very last episode. I just did not want it to end, LOL. And I still get nice dreams about Angus MacGyver...oops, maybe I said too much. ;-)
Wow, revelation about your name. Of course, I was thinking of it with the J sound. I dream of living in Colorado some day!
Name: Pam
Location: Old Town Alexandria, VA BUT lived in NEW ORLEANS, LA for 40 years and miss it EVERYDAY
Generation: OLD Boomer
Birth Order: Oldest of 2 kids....one sister Holly...she is on DK as well
Family: Husband, kids 33, 29(deceased), 27 and a 12 year old. I thought I was going through "the change". It was a change alright!!!! A baby!!!
Education: LSU!!!!
Occupation: teacher
Biggest Fear: I have a fear of flying in a plane...I totally freak out if there is ANY bumps!
General: love to laugh, cook and garden! I am in a book club, but never read the books (we should really call it a wine club!) Family means the world to me. That being said, I have a sister-in-law that I have NEVER met. My dad passed away last year, on my daughter's birthday, making that day both the best and worse day of my life! My house is messy (not hoarder messy) but not dirty...I wish I could be organized, but I find it difficult. I love the beach, but hate getting into a bathing suit.
If I could have any pet (that isn’t a doodle), I would love to have: a baby elephant!!!
Addiction: Movies, Movies, Movies. Popcorn. popcorn. popcorn, and Diet coke.
Random Useless Fact About Me: I have a large big toe
Guilty Pleasure TV Show: Housewives of Orange County/New Jersey
Love your "change of life" baby!!! I'm sure your 12-year-old keeps you young!!!
I lost my dad on my DD's birthday, too, Pam.
Pam, I have been on a couple of flights for business trips that would have scared the crap out of you with the amount of bumps. I luckily don't have a fear of flying, but I do have a fear that the person sitting next to me on a flight will throw-up! I do NOT deal well with people throwing up. blah
