I've to come to realize (at least from my own experience with my 2 goldendoodles) that doods seem pretty sensitive to the heat and sun. Both my doodles' behavior changes drastically when it warms up. They go outside, but hardly romp at all and if they do play, it is a quick wrestle in the shade. Both go well out of their way to find even a sliver of shade and will even sometimes beg to go in the house. (My dogs are 1.5 and 2.5 years old). I've already noticed it this week.....I'm in NJ and we've been having 70 to near 80 degree days already. I think your pups' behavior is totally normal. We sometimes give ours ice cubes to play and cool down with if they seem hot. As long as your pup has access to water and shade, I wouldn't worry about it. Happy Spring!!
And I have to add that as a teacher who is home with her dogs all summer, I will admit that I kind of appreciate the calm and peace that my doods seem to have in the hot sunny weather. It's a nice change from their hyper winter days! =)
Both my doodles will go crazy when I first let them out, will run and chase each other then both will plop down and take a rest. Of course this is when the weather is warm or hot. In the winter they only stop after a long while of playing. Ollie will be 2 in June and Sasah was 2 in October so they are both pretty young yet but out of their puppy stage. It sounds like she is just doing a normal thing and knows her limits :)
Normal to me I think. When we got Ruby as a puppy we were told that they play hard and then rest hard. That is true to this day. She will play at full force and then need to rest for a while.
