Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We've discussed this before but I am serious - I need to know who might take my boys if something were to happen to both dh & I.  We are traveling out of the country this Saturday for a weeks vacation and I need to have peace of mind.  While we love our parents and children - not a one of them could take BOTH of my boys as they all have dogs of their own, they don't have time to devote or enough space.  If you:

1.  would love my boys as much as your own doodle(s)

2.  promise to never, ever split them up

3.  are mostly home and have the time  and space - Stuart is about 70 lbs now so please keep that in mind

4.  could organize a doodle train to get them from FL

I could leave them to their beloved dog sitter but I would rather them stay in a doodle/DK family if possible.  If you are serious please send me a private email and that way I can leave written instructions - just in case. **********************

I believe that the perfect candidate has stepped forward - I'm thrilled!!!  So now I can go about vacation with a happy heart!!!!  I'll be leaving her contact info with my daughter so that anytime in the future she can be contacted!!!!!  Our approved God-mother can out herself or not if she chooses.  Thanks for understanding my concerns everyone!

I know my inlaws would take Cooper and the cats in a heart beat - infact, my FIL says Cooper is staying with him when we move out. I told him where Cooper goes Lego the kitten goes. He said ok :) He claims to not like catsbut we all know its pretense!

Congrats on the retirement Donna!

I am so glad you found the perfect person, but you could include me on your back up list. I plan to outlive my doods no matter what.

Nancy - I would be honored to put you on our backup list!!!!  Things in life do change so if the person that volunteered first for some reason couldn't take the boys - I've got you down!!!!

Nancy, you better have room for Buddy and Kona, just in case......

I would love Buddy and Kona!  Maybe the four of them could teach mine better manners!

I actually think about this all the time. I know my mom would take Jack in one second but she is 70. I know Jack would be happy with her but if I outlive my mom I have no idea what I will do with Jack and Molly. I know my breeder would take them both back in a second and try to home them together but I would li,e to have this settled. I do know some people on the fan club page that would love Jack the way he is used to, sleeping with him etc....I have to get this settled..so unnerving

Jenn - I know you have tons of friends who would take both Jack and Molly but you can add me to that list.  I would give both of them a good home here with Rooney and Stuart!!!!!

We had a discussion about this back in 2008:

Our family has an agreement, if anything happens to one of us, we will take each other's pets as our own. I make sure they all get along with my dogs so there will never be a problem. They love coming to Camp Grandma.

What a comforting arrangement.

OMG Jane, Stuart is getting so big!  I'm glad to read that you've found someone to take Stuart and Rooney.  I'm sure it is a huge weight off your mind.  Have a great time on your vacation!!

I worry who would take Sheba and Duke.  If anything happened to my husband and I or if I kicked the bucket and DH was still alive, would he be able to care for Sheba and Duke? He says yes but I have my doubts.  My DH works long hours and occasionally has to work his regular day shift and if there's a problem at work he could be there all night.   DH's parents live close but they really aren't dog lovers, especially my Father-in-law.  My Mother-in-law could possibly come by and let them out for potty/exercise occasionally but not on a daily basis.  DH would have to check into a pet sitter etc.  The other problem is their medical care.  Since both dogs have Atopic Dermatitis and require shots, daily medication and sometimes a special diet I sometimes wonder if he would be able to handle it.  If one of the dogs were sick he may not be able to take off of work to get them to the vet.  Both dogs flare with their allergies throughout the year and end up with ear infections and skin infections from biting and scratching, especially Duke.  Sheba struggles with UTIs which I can recognize the signs of but DH doesn't.  Although Duke is a big lover, he can be a handful at times.  Even though my two are the most wonderful, beautiful and sweet doodles, I wonder how hard it would be to find someone who would love and adore them, keep them together and be able to manage the financial burden of the medical expenses that come with them.  My son, who is in Afghanistan for the next 7-8 months, would take them but when he is deployed he would have to find a home for them while he is gone so he really wouldn't be a good option unless he quit the military.   Due to some health issues I have been experiencing and a possible upcoming surgery this is becoming a very real issue.  Do you know anyone who could love these two beauties and afford them?

They're beautiful Ann-I hope your health is better soon and not TOO serious.I thinkyou rhusband would pull through since it is what you want to happen.
