I just posted my question about Toby's leg on Yahoo Answers, because I am quite worried, and wanted some input. BIG mistake. Not only are people on there sarcastic and not at all helpful, but the anger and resentment towards Goldendoodles is ridiculous. Calling Toby a mutt, ugly, insulting the breeder (assuming I would have no health guarantee), on and on and on. That's the last time I'll do that. Wow. I would never insult someone's pet. That's just wrong. I was told I likely overpaid for a mutt, and that mutts aren't generally healthy, prone to health problems, etc. There are just some people out there who aren't nice at all. From now on I stick to Doodlekisses!!!
What really kills me about the snobbiness towards doodles is that people forget that ALL dog breeds were once mutts--people created these breeds through crossing the few original breeds to get the dog type they wanted--aren't doodle the same??? They are being bred to create non-shedding (or almost) fun-loving, family dogs--I wonder if the first people breeding labs or golden retrievers all those years ago when the breeds ORIGINATED were also treated with disdain!!
Let's just ignore them and have fun on OUR website! :)

I totally agree with you - that's how breeds are created! Having said that - there IS a difference within the doodle group, too. For example, some people get them from a breeder who does genetic testing and all sorts of other testing, so they are probably much closer to being called a breed (which, I am sure will happen in the near future) than my Cassie, or many other rehome or rescue doodles that come with few, if any, papers. I never cared about breeds, genetics, 'noble blood', and that sort of thing, but it doesn't bother me at all when others do care (I even understand that in many cases there's some good reasoning behind it, not just snobbiness). What bothers me is the fact that some butt into other people's business - they think their way is the only right way, and they don't hesitate to tell you that. Unfortunately, people like that are more likely to be prejudiced when it comes to other stuff, too, not only dogs... religion, race, other cultures... My motto is 'Live and let live'. I accept almost anybody and anything, unless it's illegal or immoral. Off the soap box now... sorry guys, these things really get to me.
Rescue dogs are GREAT! I'm a big rescue supporter. But when it comes to those who DO want to buy from a breeder the ONLY reason that I advocate choosing a breeder who does 'testing' is because it is ONE piece of strong evidence to suggest the breeder is being ethical and responsible in his/her breeding program and not 'just' making a quick buck at the expense of the lives of dogs who may be crippled with genetic disease due to their irresponsible breeding. It's not meant as a snobby thing but a way to weed out good from bad. It doesn't mean that a pup that came from untested lines will be bad or somehow inferior. Checking on testing is merely one important way to increase the chances you are supporting a responsible breeder AND that your dog will be healthy. I'm really not interested in 'breeds' or fancy bloodlines myself. But bloodlines carry genes and so HOPEFULLY a good breeder knows their dogs' bloodlines well enough to know how to best match mates. These things are important from a "scientific" or best practice point of view...NOT from a "i'm better" "you're inferior" sort of way.
Australian labradoodles are the only doodles close to achieving breed status -- but my preferred doodles are the early generation ones...and these will never be a breed that breeds true. I'm okay with that. My first interest is health and temperament...the rest is just supportive evidence =)

Yes, yes, yes, Adina, I totally agree! (You put it in words so much better than I ever could! And I try, believe me, I do.)
The only part where snobbiness comes in (and this, again, is just my opinion) is from some comments/attitudes of SOME owners of the pure breds towards the owners of 'mutts'... that give you a pretty distinct feeling they do believe they (their dogs?) are better.
Oh yeah...totally agree! Some pure breed breeders do have some GOOD arguments against the practice of breeding mixes, but just not good enough to make looking down at doodles or doodle breeders a justifiable thing
I used to answer questions on Yahoo answers in the dog section...was quite addicted until I started Doodle Kisses! I found your experience to be VERY common!
Obviously, people on Yahoo Answers don't realize that most "purebred" dogs were created from mixing breeds together to begin with. I'm sure they have never heard of hybrid vigor either. I'm not sure anyone would be able to educate people like this.
