When I switched computers, I first backed up all of my photos to an external hard drive.  Then, I lost all of my other documents due to some glitch.

Luckily, I had enrolled in the Carbonite, com Backup.  All that I needed to do was to input my email address and my password (which I had written down) and I was shown my hard drive as it existed on my old computer.

All that I had to do is to select the files I wanted to retrieve and download these files.  I am in the process of recovering all my genealogy files which are the compilation of ten years of work.

It's pretty simple but, downloading the Gigabyte of information is taking a while...

Al that I can say is BACK UP YOUR FILES, BACK UP YOUR FILES AND BACK UP YOUR FILES...

I am a firm believer in backup. Several years ago my computer crashed. I had been using a backup hd. When I got a new computer a couple of days later I was able to restore all my pictures and other files to the new computer.

Thanks for the reminder. I have gotten really lazy.

Haha, Carbonite could not back up all my photos in the year we had them. Too many! So I have two back up hard drives and an Apple time machine. I also have started saving my SD cards and not deleting them. I have no faith in technology :/
