hair care for swimming doodles

Roo is a swimming nut. He would spend all day in the pool if I let him. It is a good way to use up some of his boundless energy though. I currently try to rinse him off and spray him lightly with leave in conditioner to prevent mats. He is very curly. Anybody have a better idea? Also mostly we just play fetch, ideas for other water games?

Update summer 2009. We started being hot enough in May that Roo was swimming and wet in his long cut all the time. Then Tigger decided he could swim too and they were both wet all the time.SO.... Now that I have too swimming doodles I got them "buzz cut" in May and it has been wonderful. They rinse easily, dry fast, and by now they grown out to about an inch or so and look darling and still easy upkeep. I will probably let them both grow out over the winter and buzz them again late next spring.
