Kim,
Good luck with Parris. I know the waiting is hard.

Murph is so fast! He outruns me then makes up his own course, unfortunately.
It was amazing to run with her slow dog (he rarely faults, but has trouble making time). Any errors were definitely MY errors and I got a sense of what (right and wrong) I was doing. With Murphy I was just focused on keeping up or "catching" him.
Charles, Murphy was not allowed to start agility until 11 mos. and NO jumps until 18 mos. Of course, he is a big guy.+

Charles...Riley is still a baby.....sounds like you are doing great!!! Parris and I didn't even start until 11months. I am predicting that you will be a terrific team.

Linda...Parris had 1 cyst removed from her left side, and the other was behind her right front leg. Takes a week for biopsy results...UGGGGGGGHHHHH. The vet seemed optomistic, but just wanted to be sure.

Lori... good idea....contact work is ALWAYS good.

Murphy is famous for his "zoomies"..still.
Kim, where were the the cysts on Parris? Sorry to hear about that.

I love the idea of running the course without Parris! How clever. My instructor had me run with her dog to see if it was Murphy or me at fault (mostly Murphy, but when slowed down to her dogs pace, I actually had time to think about what I wanted to do)

I am a little worried about our next trial. We are set to do a USDAA trial Valentine's weekend, and Parris had 2 cysts removed this past Monday. She is sporting some very BRIGHT PINK STITCHES. Poor thing!! We are suppose to get them removed the day before the trial. We will have to do a lot of handling practice, but no obstacle practice.

Charles, I agree with Lori. It took TIME to get predicatable off leash behavior. Parris also got zoomies and would go visiting with all the other dogs. When Parris would run away from me, My trainer would have me turn around and run from her. She was around a year old at the time and that helped. Also, if Parris wants to go sniffing around now, I let Parrris miss her turn and I run the course without her while she is watching. She is so behaved the next turn.
Remind me how old Riley is??? If you really enjoy this, then be patient and keep up with your obedience. I still work on obedience with Parris and she will be three in April. I hope you stay motivated, it is soooo much fun.

Was kinda bummed from our Monday session, as the trainer said I need to get him more under control off leash. Actually any control. Point taken. Was leery of our training session today. But Riley came through!! First thing: his first attempt at the tunnel, a mean a long tunnel. He was charging through it bent and beating me to the end. He went back to the finish end of the teeter board exercise, and did that good with quite of bit of bounce/lift on the board. Was introduced to the tire jump. He was charging thru that. Trainer was actually impressed today on how well he did. He was having fun, and I wasn't (this time a nerd) trying to figure out what I was supposed to do. Just a great session. Like all dog training sessions/experiences you can have the highest highs and the lowest lows. Today was definitely a HIGH!

Just got back from our first 30 minute agility lesson. Being I went into this basically not knowing what to expect, I sure got a shocking revelation. Seems its more on the handlers to get their moves down correctly; as Riley picked up his end relatively quickly. As I am typing this, I am also thinking about the three moves I am supposed to be proficient on for next class.

There was a miniature poodle that was training just prior to our lesson. I couldn't believe how GREAT she was, and was enjoying every second of it. The owner has been training for a year and a half, doesn't compete that much but when she does she always cleans house.

Trainer said she almost can see Riley's wheels turning thinking through things. I really like the savvy and knowledge of our trainer. Can't wait till next session, and practicing with Sir Riley.
