Our good friend (in our lake house community) is an older, retired farmer. He lives off the land as much as is convenient and he is out with nature a lot. He always brings us "little treasures" because he believes we will "adopt" his treasures and projects.

His latest find was a piece of hollow log with two round holes in it. He brought it to us with the idea that we could turn it into a den for the little chipmonks that live around our house. Sooo, here goes:

This is the log as we got it . . . (I left Dakota in the photo so you could see the relative size . . .

 Another view . . .

We decided to give it a new top . . .

We finished it up by giving it a "homey" feel for our chipmonk friends! (The "new" top will blend right in after a high desert winter!)

Not that I want any more chipmunks, but I love this little house. It is charming.

Oh I just love this!!  How coooool!  Please keep us updated with photos when it is weathered and has residents!

I do love the little house, but don't I recall a story about rattlesnakes heading for the garage? And don't chipmunks attract snakes? Maybe you need to put a picture of a mongoose on it instead, lol!

That would have been a better idea!  . . . At least the chipmonk is on the run . . . we may be running withh it!!

Oh my goodness, that's a huge log he gave you! Dakota's expression says it all - haha!! I love the chipmunk illustration. Did you use a dremmel? It came out so cute!!!

Yes on the dremmel . . . My first attempt-- luckily, it a "rustic" project!!

The chipmunk is great!

That is so cute!
