Comment by Karen, Jasper and Jackdoodle on May 22, 2009 at 6:49am: I think most red poodles do fade, but I don't know what causes it. Some of the other colors seem to get lighter as they get older. And I've noticed Goldens seem to get much lighter faces as they age.
I really think all the color variations in our dogs is beautiful!

Fergie just got a short haircut and you can really see all the color variations in her now. She was much darker as a puppy - similar to what Lucy is now. I heard there is a thing called a "fade gene" in poodles and that's why many red poodles fade to "strawberry blonde". Is that right or did I have too much wine when I heard that?

Comment by Nancy, Ned, Clancy, and Charlie on May 21, 2009 at 10:04pm: Hi guys, It's me. I hear that the fun group is here so I HAD to join. I'm bringing my "brother" - his name is Simon and when we have the right haircuts, our fur matches and
is golden blond. Other times I am more apricot. Simon - being a lab mix, has a darker stripe down his back just like you guys. If I have a stripe, I don't know it, but I do have white parts just like Simon.
