Does any breed mixed with a poodle make it a doodle? Someone wants to join our doodle romp and she has a pekapoo. Said it was 1/2 a doodle. Is that correct? My concern is that it is such a small dog compared to most of our doodles. Any suggestions anyone?
I would ask the pekeapoo owner if they know many doodles, does their dog know and play with doodles? It is all a matter of play styles. Doodles are usually pretty rambunctious in play. She needs to understand that her dog may become the prey simply because of it's size. I wpould worry about the small dog being comfortable with that. But I guess it is a pekedoodle?
They are usually called "poo-mixes".
The "doodle" term comes from Labrador-Poodle; If you take out the "or" and the "P", you get Labrad-oodle.
We include goldendoodles in the broad category of "doodles", but maybe they should really be called "Goldenoodles", lol.
Schnauzer/poodle mixes have long been called Schnoodles- schnauzer-poodle. But now everything is called "something-doodle". Shep-a-doodle, for example. Shepoodle would make more sense to me, but everybody wants to cash in on the doodle craze, I guess..
I would say the correct term for the mix is peke-a-poo, but as Shakespeare said, what's in a name? Let the little fuzzball be a doodle if it makes him happy. :-)
Thanks ladies for your replies. Well, weather they are called "doodles, oodles or noodles" if the owner feels her little "fuzzballs" can romp with the big boys, then she is welcome to join us. Yes, she will learn a lot about the original doodles won't she? And I would love to be a part of showing others that we are not snobby dog owners!
I did take your advice Tammy and ask her if she is familiar with the doodle play style and is aware of how big our guys can be. I am waiting to hear back from her. Looks like it will be a good romp. We are on Arizona-Doodle-Romp@meetup.com and I think it's up to 19 responses in just under a week. I'm excited!
