Hi.,

He is a cutie! :) I think if your husband saw bigger dogs that are well mannered in a home, he may change his mind.

Good luck!

Hi everybody---I'm so glad I found this site and this group!  My youngest son Cameron is four and has spina bifida.  He spends some time in a wheelchair, but he has a walker he can use for short distances.  I'm trying to explain to my husband how benifitial a service dog would be for him, but he keeps saying he will NOT have a big dog in the house.

I am new to this group. I wish I'd have found you earlier! I am looking forward to catching up on the posts.
I want to affirm that "The Golden Bridge" is an excellent book!
I have placed some puppies with Austic Children and I'd love to personally chat with anyone who might want to share ideas. Please feel free to contact me personally.

I cannot locate the name of this book now. I know it also talked about ABA I believe. I have been googling all over trying to figure it out. I think I would know it if I heard the name.

I had wrote the name of this book down and cannot find the paper I put it on...someone had called me wanting me to use their dog food. I am trying to now backtrack to that person to get the info again...have not forgot about this..

Ann,
I am thinking that the teamwork book may not be what you need for that. Teamwork is more about training your dog for your specfic disability needs, more for mobility services like picking up things dropped on the floor. Someone gave me the name of a book, geared for autism, I need to locate the title and get back with you.

Charlie has been asked to work with a couple of children at school who have autism. Would the Teamwork book/video be a good source of information? Where can I find resouces to help us understand what we would need to do? I don't want to committ with out learning more.

Just found the "Teamwork II" book/video you mentioned Melissa on Amazon. I also saw one called "The Golden Bridge: A Guide to Assistive Dogs for Children Challenged buy Autism....". Is anyone familiar with that one?

Hi Dixie,
A nice video is Teamwork II. It is a nice way to work on training for some service work things on your own. Even though you do not necessarily need service type things from the dog, it may be a nice way to help with bonding your child and the dog. Having the "work" to do with our dogs has been one of the huge benefits for my son.
