Cutting hair over eyes

I have been trying to trim the hair over Riley's eyes. Just when I think she can see, she moves her head around and more falls in her eyes. I also noticed the hair falls straight down instead of framing her eyes like everyone else. Is this because you dry it that way or is it the cut? We always let her air dry so I'm wondering if that is part if the problem. I try to cut angled like they cut my hair so it isn't blunt but that isn't working either. Would anyone have suggestions? My next resort was buying thinning shears and maybe asking a groomer to teach me. Not sure they would since it limits my visits.

It could be that's just the way her hair grows. I trim Paddy's eyelashes (poodles can grow very long eyelashes) as well as the hair around his eyes, using blunt-tipped scissors. In our case, it's a matter of brushing him out and then seeing how the hair falls. I then trim it shortish over the eyes and transition it up to the longer hair on his head. It's a matter of trial and error. I do Paddy's head/face myself and let the groomer deal with the rest of him.

It makes me feel better that you trim his eyelashes as I felt bad that I probably cut them by accident before I found them underneath all the hair. :-)

My little Miss Ivy has the most long , luxurious lashes. I trim around her eyes very carefully so as not to trim her lashes. They are just to pretty to cut, and are the highlight of her face.

I have carefully trimmed (with blunt nose) the hair on what would be her eyelid, then transition it out to  round out the shape of her head. When Miss Ivy is sleeping is when I can get close to her eyes with little movement from her and do the more precision trimming. :-)

I wonder if the eyelashes are a golden trait or poodle trait?

My vet said poodle. And that if left untrimmed, they can sometimes curl back around and grow into the eyelids or irritate the eyes themselves. I always trim Paddy's to a reasonable length.

I have wondered about that as well. I haven't ever spent any time around poodles, so I don' t know what their eyelashes are like. I had Yellow labs for years and their eyelashes were never that long. Wherever our doodles get their lashes from is a mystery to me, but that's quite alright. Who doesn't love those beautiful long lashes.
I will always trim my Miss Ivy's eyes so that her lashes stand out very well! ❤

I have the same problem. I think it mostly has to do with how the hair grows. I just did Nimbus. It keeps falling in his eyes, but if I chop off more it looks weird.

I think it looks good between his eyes. Do you blow dry his hair?

I like to use thinning shears rather than regular scissors.  That way I'm only cutting a little off at a time.  For close to the eyes I use blunt end scissors. I usually does take several tries until I finally say, OK that's it.
