Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Bentley is 15 weeks old and just sheds very fine, fuzzy fur when we brush him.  After a 5 minute brush session of the whole body, the brush is about 1/4 full of fur.  I am wondering if this is normal for all doodles to shed the puppy coat and then not shed when the adult coat comes in.  Since you all have F1Bs I thought I would ask your experience with your puppies/adults.  We were hoping for a non-shedder both for housekeeping and allergies but we will love him either way. :)

Thanks!

If I was selling a puppy like this, I would probably call it low shedding. The puppy could still be fine for your household allergies. If it isn't bothering you now, it probably won't in the future. That's my predictions. It will be interesting to see what other people have experienced.
Both my doodles shed some when I brush/comb them, but I don't have dog hair all over me, the furniture or doggie tumbleweeds floating around on the floor. (the hair tumbleweeds I sweep every day belong to the collie and the 3 cats :-)) I might be wrong, but I consider my dogs no-to-low shed. My goldendoodle is an F1 and my ALD is 3rd gen.
My dog gets hair in the brush when I groom him, but doesn't shed on anything else... perhaps that is how your pup will be?
Hi again, Kona never shed... puppy coat or anything. Owen has that bunny fur and did the same thing. He sheds lightly now at 7 months. I don't know what to think about the future. He still has some bunny fur. His shedding is so much less than our Golden Retrievers it is going to be fine. Hoping for the best. Both of ours are F1.
Allie is an F1bb. Her dad was already a goldendoodle (f1b) and her mom was a poodle. When I brush her, I do pull out  a little hair, but she does not shed. I experienced that Allie, at about 6 months old, got a LOT of mats, so be sure to keep up with the brushing if you plan on keeping his fur long. That was the dreaded change in coat, but after that she has not had any mats at all. I brush her every few days now. When she went through the coat change, I had to brush her every day. My opinion is that Bentley will not shed as he gets older but you will know for sure after he goes through his coat change.
I assumed that if you only get fur/hair (whatever) in the brush when you are combing, it would not be a shedding coat. In reading Barb's post, I must be wrong.  We get more than a brushful of fur when we groom Ned as well as little pin knots, but he doesn't shed on us or the furniture.
How old is this puppy? I usually get litteraly no hair in the brush until after 5 months. As far as calling a puppy no shed or low shed, I would rather error on the side of caution than be wrong about shedding when I am selling one. It's always better to have a pleasant surpise in my book.
He is 4 months and I fill about 1/4 or less of the brush with fuzzy,
fine hair when I brush him every other day.  Do you think that will
increase since you said you don't usually see any until after 5
months?  I am hoping that once his puppy coat is gone, he won't shed.
He is an F1B.  What do you think?

Thanks for your opinion on this!
Gabriele
That's not very much hair in the brush. I would say he is likely non shedding. Not 100% sure. I had one puppy that started shedding at 4 months. I thought that was weird, so I changed her diet and within a month her coat stopped shedding. In 3 months it was much softer and now is gorgeous. Her name is Angel after her great, great grandmother Rutland's Angel and her pic is at the top of the grooming group right now.

What did you start feeding her?
