"Ice on Ice" vs "Mane & Tail Detangler" vs "Liquid Slicker" vs any others?

I've used the first two. I tend to alternate between them from brushing to brushing and honestly haven't noticed a big difference between them. My pup is only 8 mos. so still pretty new at this and haven't encountered the dreaded coat change yet. Just wondering if anyone has opinions on the best detanglers.

You are right this is waaay more fun. I should be cleaning the house to get ready for Thanksgiving company and Ned needs that brushing and mat comb-out!
It's easier to keep a band around the neck of shorter hair. some of the sites recommend that to keep the collars from catching. Also, next year go to someone else's house. Company is overrated. solved all those problems. What's next?
Hi, I am back after spending the last 2+ hours grooming. He still has some problem areas but I will get it all out eventually. Ned's fur is like cotton. The collar rubbed that soft fur into solid cotton ball mats. And we hadn't brushed him since last Friday - 4 days is too long. We are going back to the rolled leather collar. I think if I cut the neck hair shorter on Ned it would show and look odd because under his chin and his chest are quite curly. The rolled leather collars, especially if they fit well and aren't too big or heavy, don't cause serious mats. My groomer recommends non-dyed ones because they get softer sooner.
Tell Spud and Luca that I used Cowboy Magic!
Don't tell Spud but Luca has Cowboy Magic.
So do you have a rolled collar brand recommendation ;o) ?? I think we need to go with that for everyday wear.
They are just rolled leather and stitched - the softer the better. We got ours at the regular chain pet store - PetSmart or PetCo. The last one we got Ned was a little lighter weight than this one and I liked it better but it was wearing out so..... I wonder if a fairly expensive one from a specialty place would be softer???
I have the same ones I think. They do get somewhat softer with age . I keep them on the dogs all the time and they don't seem to cause any problems. When Luca was a puppy I'd always take his collar off. I worried it would catch on things. Well, there was never a "handle" to catch him by. Older and wiser now.
Yes. Need the handle!!! We took Ned to the baseball field to run today and he found some squishy, squishy mud and then dug, laid down and did a tummy crawl before I could even stop him! Even after drying off, I had to brush and comb. It was like clay! The other dogs - a little bit dirty on their feet!
LOL @ the "handle". Ringo craves the mud too! And clay is the worst! I learned the hard way when I chatted with a friend for a while after our dogs romped in the mud....it became almost like concrete :o)

About collars, wonder if these are worth the price...

Diane, these look just like the ones I have bought, however if they are a bit thinner for the length or higher quality, it would be well worth it. Ned's pet store leather collar was about $20. I bookmarked the page and will take a second look at them. Ned's newest collar has a bit bigger buckle than the last one and I don't like it as well. Their spiel is even about dogs with coats you don't want to disturb - that would be our doods.
Hi girls - snuck in on this discussion- sorry - do you know if there are any leather collars that has a 'latch-type' clip, like the nylon ones? She too gets matted around her neck where her collar is. Want to change Tori's collar too - but worry about her being alone with it on. We leave her collar on during the day, so my mother & father-in-law can easily attach her leash and take her out while we're all at school and work
OK so about the mud. Zoe, yesterday on Thanksgiving, and looking soooo pretty and clean, went romping with my daughter's Swiss Mountain dog "tank" aka 'Dennis" who introduced her to his secret mud puddle. She came in and no more aussie doodle, but looked like a fluffy sheep with BLACK HOOVES, all 4 paws. Baby wipes are good for a quick clean up by the way!!!
