My Gavin may have kemp down his back. It is darker, coarser, curlier hair. I kinda assumed it was part of his coat change phase (he's 7 months) as it seems to be getting longer and softer now. Does it go away? He is coming in nice and fleecy on his legs, chest and stomach the last couple of weeks and the fleece seems to be migrating down the back of his neck. Kemp or no kemp I would say that both Noah and Gavin are some handsome!
I wouldn't mind having someone with a dog that has the kemp on thee back do a series of pictures to discrbe what kemp is and what is actually looks like.
Ned is lighter than Noah already, but his kemp is darker -keeping him apricot rather than cream. Ned's coat has changed from soft cottony fleece to what I think is wool. He is still pretty soft except for the kemp down his back.
Thanks so much for these pics! Our Simon Doodle will be 2 in May & his story exactly matches Noah's! Simon had the same beautiful puppy coat & although we knew his adult coat would be different I wasn't expecting it to be curly, wool/fleece, or somewhat course! I never could even figure out how to describe Simon's coat but you've done it for us! Thanks!
Thanks for posting the pictures. Neely doesn't have it. I don't know what I would describe his coat as. He is a beautiful soft fleece but at the area about the hind legs on his back it is not as fine and soft and is courser and when it is brushed it is straighter and kinky. Still fleece though just more like good hair in the front bad hair day at the back. Need to spritz it down after a brushing.
