Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I'm getting so frustrated with Lucy looking like a toy poodle every time I pick her up from the groomer's. The shop I take her to specializes in little dog cuts, but I liked the trim they did on Lucy's body the 1st time that I kept going back. I've taken pictures, instructions, you name it, and I can never get her to have the face/head turn out correctly. Lucy has such dense, cotton candy-type hair there is no way on this earth I would tackle the entire job myself. I do touch up trim work, but never the whole thing. Finding a good groomer is almost impossible. And I HATE trying new ones because of the usual disappointment. What's a doodle mom to do?

Good grooming! She's beautiful, but looks more like a poodle to me.
Hmmmm. From my experience a poodle has a shaved face, longer ears, and a topknot. Then the tail - it is shaved up to the point of the pompom. Many people have said that my dogs look like poodles with long tails, so I tried to give them more the doodle look, rounding the ears into the chin, no topknot, and a long, glorious tail. I'm still working on it and it has been hard since both of them have been sick recently causing parts of their bodies to be shaved.
She looks beautiful by the way.

I actually like Lucy's ears short. I know its not the typical doodle 'look', but just a personal preference of mine. I also like the snout/muzzle cut shorter as well. Lucy's muzzle grows crazy fast and I hate how it always ends up in her mouth at a certain stage (plus, its a thick cotton candy-type texture that mats easily). I agree though, that the ears need to be layered. I did end up taking the blending sheers and worked on her ears and cheek area (to get more definition in her face). I'm happy with the look now. The only thing bugging me at the moment is how skinny her legs are. I forgot to mention keeping the legs twice as long as the body, so Lucy has short-short stick legs. Oh, well, 5 weeks from now we'll be right back to square one with a new groom, so I can't really angst over it too much.
