I just brought my emma to the groomer's today .she's 17 weeks . .so the groomer just does a bath and tidy. she trimmed around the eyes. im not sure if that is a poodle cut or a doodle cut? she looks a lot older after the cut..what do you guys tell te groomers to have them not make yoru doodle look like a poodle ? i'll post a before and after picture
I really don't see a big difference in the before and after, but did want to say how beautiful Emma is. She definitely looks like a doodle in both pics. I like to keep Chewie trimmed around the eyes so he can see good and we can see his pretty eyes...LOL. I have found that as long as they don't make it too short in between the eyes he still looks like a doodle.
yeah i just did not know how a poodle cut looks like. when i picked her up ..i was surprised that is how she trimmed it. i used scissors to cut around her eyes..but then again im no professional groomer :) LOL
yeah i must agree the trim really help her vision and seee how big her eyes are.
i just dont want to take her doodle look away.
I think Emma is just a beautiful dog! I think she looks really nice and definitely like a doodle! I have only taken Melody to the groomer twice. The first time I was so surprised at how much the groomer cut off of her face. In a week she looked perfect to me. The second time I asked her not to cut as much off, and she didn't. It has been 4 weeks and she looks like she needs another trim. It does seem to grow fast! Melody is 9 months old and we have had her for almost 4 months. The hair around the eyes grows so fast! Emma is 17 weeks old? How much does she weigh? Is she a medium, or standard, or???? She is beautiful!!!!!
Hi Lauria,
then it is best to keep short then eh ? if the hair grows fast. i brought her to the groomers last wednesday..i can see it start growing back now a bit. so i think its okay. as long as she does not look like a poodle ..and more of a doodle then im happy :) no offense to the poodle owners. i just want emma to be who she is
emma is turnign 18 weeks on monday. she is 32 lbs earlier this week. she is a standard f2b goldendoodle.
thanks :) i think all doodles are lovely
Here are some of my fav shots of Murphy before and after I
ve done his face. I like it long as well, but it nice to see those eyes and notice the eye lashes in one photo. I use the thinning shears also around the face and just fine tune around the lips with reg. scissors. I am getting him to hold still better as I get around his face with the clippers so I can get closer for the summer. I got all my grooming tips from here! First 2 pictures I just got done grooming him, 2nd two pics were a few months ago. I combed it down in the first two for you to see the shape of his eyes better, but that snout will be really full after one good shake.
So beautiful! I bet you are having a lot of fun. My groomer said they can do it the "poodle" cut or keep in "scruffy". That must mean just using the thinning shears another gal was mentioning here. I don't feel confident in trying that myself, but hope to learn. It may mean tidying up her face a little more often than having her total body groomed. We will see! I agree, the doodles are just lovely! We are completely thrilled with ours!
sue, murphy is such a cutie ! i loove the frizzies on his head.! you did a great job on the grooming. im a bit nervous to use a clipper on emma.. and woudl you need to get a standing table for her to stand still while you clip ?
What a cute doodle! I, too have been struggling with a groomer who knows poodle cuts, but not doodle cute. The difference I see is not how short it is between the eyes--that looks fine, although it could be a tiny bit longer. The difference I see is the shortness just above the eyes. It's short above the eyes for a greater distance than usual. That does open up the face and eyes because you don't have the overhanging "bangs", so you may prefer that. One thing is for sure--it grows back FAST!
yeah the cut pretty much gone now. but i can still see her eyes. te groomer said i should be bringing her in every 4-8 weeks. do everybody else does that too?
Melody's groomer said every 6-8 weeks, and there were 6 weeks in between the first and second visit. She had the bit of matting after rolling on her back when my husband bathed her, when I was not here. I don't know how long she rolled around, but Alan said she was trying to dry herself off. We were used to Beagles, who did not have hair that matted at all. Right now it has been 4 weeks since her last grooming, and I think she almost looks borderline for another trip in. It does grow fast!
