I took Trav in to Petco, where I was going to give him a bath, and got talking to the groomer. Next thing I knew, I'd checked him in for a bath and trim. Now, this is shorter than I like as a rule, but his ears were matted, and there were mats between his toes, and I'd scissored off a bit of fur myself so he was looking fairly uneven. Now I'm worried about him getting cold when he goes outside!

Nothing could make Traveler less than handsome. But he could ge chilly. He should be fine if it's not below freezing. Do you get really cold weather?
wow he looks like a totally different dog. He looks good though. How cold is it in OR right now? If it isn't super cold then he should probably be ok when you go for walks. I wouldn't leave him outside though. You could go to Petsmart and get him a fleece jacket...they are all 40% off right now :)
Wow, look how light he looks! Almost like a lavender! I would never have recognized him!
It is short, but it should grow out nicely.
Is it really cold in your area?
He does look like a lavender. Beautiful color.
Karen & F, his mom was lavender, and I guess that's his color now. Sounds better than taupe. lol It isn't really cold right now--30's to 40's--but it's drizzly and damp, that kind of cold.
Yikes! Bundle up, Caitlin! I grew up in Montana, so I know all about those very minus temps.
OMD. They should just shut down the state. Be safe.
I think he is going to need a sweater for sure but at least you won't have to worry about snowballs for awhile. I know most people say it grows fast but when Quincy had the side of his head shaved because of an abscess it took a long time to grow out and is still way shorter than the rest of him and that was done in Oct.
The color change is really interesting! I agree with the sweater comments if it's cold.
It's amazing how different the doodles look when they're trimmed. (I'm trying not to say shaved lol) I had him cut this short once before, and figured he grew out at about 1/2 inch per month--so, like Donna said, it does seem to take quite a while to get the coat back. I did insist that his muzzle not be shaved.
I'm pleased to see his ears taken care of, though. They've had to-the-skin mats that I just haven't been able to get out. Now that I think about it, maybe I could have just asked to have his ears and feet done. :)
It's been about high 30's or mid-40's for temps lately, but it's very damp and rainy. I think he was cold today as he curled up right next to me, like he was looking for warm. He absolutely hates to have any sort of clothing, so maybe we'll have to do shorter walks, along with more inside play.
I think he should be fine in that weather if you move along and warm up at home. Also, maybe he won't hate clothing if he feels chilly.
He's pretty naked on the underside, and I was feeling guilty today when I put on a coat when we went outside. Maybe I'll try a sweater again--last time I tried all he did was try to tear it to pieces. :)
